just got power back in SD.. rains hit hard about 3 AM and power had gone out so I had opened the western window in my bedroom .. woke up to lightening and a flooded floor. Rains stopped this AM so much that it looked like a normal day... except for the solid white sky. Rains just started again now. Glad to have the power back. but well.. Haiti..

Only had an hour of no power today at 1 pm in SD. Don't you live in Gazcue, normally power shouldn't be an issue there.

it has been getting worse over the last year.. usually now once a week for 3 to 4 hours., Now I think that they just cut .. it is ok. we are not so important. the hotels have their own generator.. and they will have it on to the banks etc.. I don't mind,, think they are telling us that we had best get our inversors!

Anybody's been following the development of disturbance 1 east of windward islands?? It could turn into a real pain in the ass once it gets to our zone.

could be a TD or TS in the central caribbean Sea in a few days, dumping down rain.
hard to tell with tjhe actually a bit "disturbed" conditions on our South.
first it will rain down over the Windward Islands and southern Leewards,
once in the caribbean Sea we will see what kinda development is possible.

I just received this from Haiti: "NO News from Jacmel , All communications are down ..
But yes, plenty Of damages in The Big South Of Haiti, bridges collages, homes destroyed, etc"

Fingers crossed.

My daughter in Palm Beach County is very nervous.

Stay well.

Here in Santiago we have breezes and just what we used to call "fritzing"..

Matthew take's it's time interacting with Cuba's SE
and did til now not get a mayor knock back.
moving on 7-8mph North, 950mb of central pressure and 130mph windpowers,
it survived 2 landfalls in just one day as a Mayor Hurricane.
the perfectly organized machine.
tracking shows as wandering slightly below the Bahamas from SE to NW,
that's bad for the guys up there as many Islands will get the strong Eastside of the Storm,
which may get a chance to increase powers there due forecasted very good to perfect conditions for intensification for the time frame of it's bypassing.

Nicole does not show any signs to make strange turns or such, it should not bother us.

the Invest approaching the Windward Islands does not show progress/development, yet,
there are possibilities that this could change once it wanders thru the Caribbean Sea this weekend.
it contains good amounts of Rain and windy areas near TS Force, Tho.

an other cloudy day and we should be fine, so get those Mobs working and clean up the mess.

Friends from Cuba say Holguin is calm but have heard reports that the city of Baracoa near the eastern tip is "destroyed"

After I signed off las night, there were some really strong winds whistling through the trees, but, as yet, no major damage reported.

Local news reports several (3 or 4) fatalities in Santo Domingo.

Still waiting to hear from Kfrancis down in Cabral.

Heaven help Haiti.

Glad to see Wud is up nice and early.

I just got back from a morning walk with the two dogs, Molly (12+) and Bubu (1 1/2+), and actually saw some blue sky!

The breezes were great, they shook the trees in the park, but were, indeed, balmy. There were songbirds out and about announcing the end of the weather crisis. I even saw a little hummingbird (Is there such a thing as a "big" hummingbird?)

No real news but to mention that the doppler from Guantanamo shows Matthew to be north of Cuba right now, and the winds and rains are pounding the northwestern peninsula of Haiti around Port du Paix and probably Cape Haitian.

This site is by far the really greatest for these events.

Kudos to Mike and the other very smart posters.

Very windy and raining most of yesterday evening in Santo Domingo, today is very windy and I can see we are due for some more rain coming in from the sea. Matthew's like one of those people who visit and won't leave even though the party finished a long time ago.
