Sorry to hear of this experience. Just goes to show you what to look out for.
As far as you writing "I explained that I had felt it was enough and only had large U.S bills." WOW, I would be very weary of ever mentioning that "large bills" is all you have. This could set you up to have even a far more worse experience.
Oh, I'm sorry...did I discriminate any thieves?

27 Waterfalls "Billy"

Hey Folks, Thought you would be interested to see the letter from 27 Waterfalls.
Joe,
The Association met last night to discuss the matter. In accordance with the by-laws of the Association, Billy has been suspended for one month, starting today, while the disciplinary committee investigates what the longer-term punishment will be.

Regards,
Todd

My response follows:Hello Todd, I must admit I am somewhat disappointed. To touch a woman in a sexual way without permission in the D.R. or U.S.A. is a offense against the law. To allow a man in a trusted position such as a guide to do so is in my mind a further violation. You should note that in Alaska I am a Sport Fishing Guide. If I were to do the above I would face revocation of my Guide License, my Captain's License as well as criminal penalty under U.S. law. There would be no talk of a suspended time. I must say that I am also pleased that Billy was suspended as this shows pride in 27 Waterfalls and the Guides behavior. Jessica told me afterwards that she felt dirty due to Billy touching her. For a man, (myself) who bragged on the people and the country this was a grave disappointment. Remember, we are talking about a girl who just got engaged at 17 to a wonderful man at home and traveled to her 1st country outside the U.S. and is pawed by a man who accuses her of being a racist because she would not sleep with him. I would expect such behavior from a low life Sankie not an esteemed guide representing one of the better groups in the D.R. I hope you can understand the hurt that a young girl encountered. I must thank you for your notes to me on what has happened. I have faith that 27 Waterfalls will follow through with a punishment that will be an example for others who think of sexual assault as a joke. Thank you. Joe

I would be interested in your thoughts as to the punishment Billy has already recieved. Is it enough?

If it changes his behaviour, maybe yes. If it doesn't, definitely no. I think that if they consider re-instating him it should be under close supervision for a period of six months. Yes, I know, dream on, Lambada. There are plenty of other young unemployed men in that area who wouldn't dream of gratuitously touching a woman. Pity one of them couldn't be given the opportunity to work in Billy's place.

Also, calling them "stupid" is not only insilting, but grossly inaccurate based on the story you relate.
QUOTE]

Well I have my doubts sometimes, and frankly I cannot understand why people think that this is the promised paradise on earth (unless they lived in hell before, or have lots or lots of money, or live in some beautiful secluded spot). But then again this place might have been real nice some 15-20 years ago, before it started to watch american TV, like many other places around the world. It is nice if you go into AI and never get out of the place, but once you have face the real world outside the AI walls, especially in SD (or any other big town, around here - I cannot really say, I only know evryday living in SD), then I guess the word "stupid" comes to my lips quite often - especially when driving. But then again, who am I to judge, they probably think that I am the stupid one.

Just to make everyone aware, the men who work at Damajagua Waterfalls
are NOT tour guides. They are 'water guys', they are not allowed to assist or work with other tours in the island, because they do not have the training and liscence to do so. They are only allowed to work at the waterfalls helping people climb the falls.
Official Dominican tour guides speak multiple languages and have been educated to deal with tourists and they know the importance of tourists and tourism for the island. The tour guides that I have met have had vast knowledge about their country and were able to discuss everything and anything about the D.R.....from the national dish to global warming.
Jallen did you have an official tour guide with you who escorted to the waterfalls, or did you go on your own?
I just dont want behaviour from the likes of people like "Billy" to have a negative impact on all the 'official and liscenced', highly educated, respectful and hardworking tour guides of this country.

Paradise is what YOU want.
I will probably get in trouble writing this, but I cannot help myself.
I did not come here to look for paradise (but from what i read and see I guess many did), I will be on my way to elsewhere soon anyway. I love the natural beauty of this country. As to the word stupid, it is not the correct one, my error, I guess ignorance (could be blaimed on educational system I guess) and total disregard for others, and very superfical (not sure what that can be blamed on) is more of a description. Sure out in the countryside there are some nice and helpful people, but maybe I mix with all the wrong people. They all seem to be nice and friendly first, but then I found out that it is all just superficial. Anyway, I rest my case.
