Maybe we can get the High Caribbean to open again....that place was a blast.
addressing the closing hour issue.
She stated how "prostitution" "per se", is NOT the problem that the authorities are addressing, "after all it is legal and a woman should not be prohibited if that is her ultimate desire". It is the current manifestation of it and the disorderly atmosphere on and around Pedro Clisante and now expanding further away that is causing so much concern.
She emphasized that a fair resolution to the problem is one of her greatest concerns even though many choose not to believe her.
You can't for one moment tell me the "Good Mayor" of Sosua knows nothing of these illegal shake downs???
I cant see how the closing hours affect prostitution, when there are places like the Jolly and Brittania that don't let the putas hang out there, yet are affected. Seems they should focus on the places with issues. It's like closing my restaurant because the restaurant beside me constantly gives patrons food poisoning?!?!?
They have targeted certain places that were the "worst " and some of them are now closed.
For something that is not effective, it certainly has the whore mongers squealing like stuck pigs that their sex tourism will no longer save Sosua, so it must have some of the desired effect, no?
It is very true that the businesses not being targeted in the war on whores also suffer if they want to be open late. That is called being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Unfair? Sure. The collateral damage of the urban renewal effort that want to bring more family tourism, DOMINICAN TOURISM, and retirees to Sosua.
Perhaps they are moving to other areas because the putas are being hassled by the cops ILLEGALLY.
I suspect that is just part of the strategy.
You can't for one moment tell me the "Good Mayor" of Sosua knows nothing of these illegal shake downs???
Knowing does not mean being in charge.
The being in charge point speaks to - "She emphasized that a fair resolution to the problem is one of her greatest concerns even though many choose not to believe her." Why would you believe/trust/follow someone who advocates illegal activity as they proclaim they are cleaning up illegal activity?

I was asking specifically about the Esplanade project. I'm still interested in what their targeted demographic and business model is?
I was hoping NY-DR Commuter would address this as he seems to have insider knowledge about this particular project. (Can't help but use another Trump analogy: Maybe it's going to be the "fittest" project in the history of the country?) (;-)
And I rode by there yesterday afternoon. Didn't appear to be any activity (construction or otherwise) going on?? Is there a timeline? I always have friends wanting to visit looking for recommendations.
The owner/investor of the Esplanade project are personal friends. The local commander came by and stopped the work till the proper permits are issued (read between the lines here). They are furious for they had a 125 man work force brought to a halt! The tourism minister gave them the go-ahead to start. You know how it works here.
They have a soft opening set for Jan 15. I have a $100.00 wager no-way!!!
Their market will be NY and yes a single/families mix. The owner runs a few properties here already and knows his clients.
The investor (this if just one of his many projects) is now working on low-income housing complex with DR banks mortgages. Will be in the Playa Dorado area. He has many more in the works. He has a large team here doing their due diligence on different idea, projects, developments.
If you’d like to meet the guys may I suggest you go to their “movie out nights” for the kids in different barrios on the North Coast on the week-ends. Yes, they do a great deal of charity and humanitarian work here also.

He is a believer in the North coast.
Sure I believe you, nicely paraphrased indeed - it almost looks like you wrote her speech for her in the first place !
But I don't believe she has nothing to do with all this goings on in Sosua...
Who knows maybe " counseling" is the Brand name of a Baby Formula/ leche ?They don't want counselling - they want money!
I'm curious. What is the targeted demo for La Esplanade? And what type of business will it be?
(Or is that like Donald Trumps plan to defeat ISIS? - " Secret, but it's going to be fantastic, trust me!")
Maybe it's going to be the "fittest" project in the history of the country?) (;-)
It is what it is, and so it goes. Knowing does not mean being in charge.
You seem pretty well informed about what went on at these meetings as well as the issue at hand.
There is certainly many takes on the issues for sure and who might be responsible
Were you actually present at both of these meetings?
One would assume you were to have so much inside information to share.
I didn't feel I was at liberty to post the infomation I had until the project was mentioned here. Since "singletravel" categorizes the "owner/investor" as "personal friends", I will defer to him to post certain specific details of the project.
Back on topic:
The January opening date and sports themes were what I heard too.
Interesting on the temp work stoppage though, since many here point out how clearly all levels of government are working towards a new family destination, and attracting investors...
Perhaps the 'targeted demographic' of La Espalanda, might fit well with the old Rumba crowd / new Bourbon Street group!
