Don't tourists that come to these 5 star resorts here in the DR want a beach?
Just askin.............
The town they are located in . . . Sos?a . . . has seven beaches along ten kilometers of coastline.
Just sayin.............

I know 4 people personally whos families are struggling now. I know, insignificant.
I know 185 people who are now receiving a steady salary for the first time in a long time, for some, years.
In about two months 200 more people will be gainfully employed with full time jobs. They will be working for a company that is currently investing millions of dollars in one of the largest projects to be developed in Sos?a in DECADES. Each and every one of those employees will be registered with the government, receiving contributions to their worker's pension fund (SVDS) and labor risk insurance fund (SRL). They will also be entitled to paid vacation and paid "sick leave".
Nobody is representing that even one job loss is insignificant, especially if you are the person who has lost their employment.
The hundreds of people to soon be gainfully employed are also significant.

*-Cycling (if the can find a circular route on quiet roads)
And none of them on the doorstep of this resort. *The only thing I can imagine is that they will run some sort of free shuttle to and from the beach for the guests.
If I was looking to book a Caribbean vacation, a beachfront resort would be one of my criteria. *Although not everyone's high priority, I reckon it will have to be pretty spectacular to make up for having no beach access.
Correct, none of them on the "doorstep". However the "beach access" they will be providing is unprecedented here in Sos?a. ALL SEVEN of Sos?a's beaches are within three or four kilometers of their "doorstep". The hotel guests will have direct access to those beaches as well as the beaches of Cabarete, provided by exclusive private shuttles.
A beachfront resort is certainly nice. Having access to several beaches, some with their own exclusive areas for AHNVEE guests with hotel services and amenities INCLUDED, and FREE, SAFE, INSURED, GUARANTEED, PRIVATE, EXCLUSIVE transportation to those beaches, as well as the airport and the Amber Cove cruise ship terminal, in brand new luxury vehicles, is also very nice.
Sos?a has only two actual "beachfront resorts", neither of which offer the experiences which will soon be directly provided by the AHNVEE Resort.
The AHNVEE Resort's demographic is active adults, seeking a Caribbean vacation including adventure, fine dining and relaxation.
If their guests desire, in addition to their on-site services, they will have access to Scuba Diving, Snorkeling, Sailing, Deep Sea Sport Fishing, Private Yacht, Kite Surfing, Wind Surfing, Horseback Riding, Hiking, Golf, ATVs, etc., all included, arranged and provided, for a personalized experience, by the AHNVEE staff.
One thing that won't be changing in Sosua's urban renewal is the color of the sand.*
etc. = Girls, Girls, GirlsIf their guests desire, in addition to their on-site services, they will have access to Scuba Diving, Snorkeling, Sailing, Deep Sea Sport Fishing, Private Yacht, Kite Surfing, Wind Surfing, Horseback Riding, Hiking, Golf, ATVs, etc.
with an open bottle of decent red wine and my fingers all crusty from a bag of Ruffles Queso.
This is the type of resort that should have been set up in Cabarete. The demographic it is directed toward is suited there more than geriatric Sosua.
I hope it works for the sake of the locals. It just seems like it is in the wrong area of the wrong town.
Ultimately, the greater diversity of infrastructure and multitude of nearby facilities and services that Sos?a has to offer is what made it more attractive and appealing to the AHNVEE developers. And since AHNVEE will have their own exclusive private areas, with full resort amenities included on BOTH beaches, it was obviously better to anchor the property in Sos?a.
As a fellow investor I feel the exact same way. Sosua reminded me of the Jersey coast when I was a child. I don't see El Batey changing to much as far as getting over developed. There isn't the open space to really change the character. Just my opinionThat's all well and good, NY-Dr Commuter. But what I - and many others- like is the unique character of Sosua. This comment has nothing to do with prostitution, but the overall honky-tonk-ness of the town. There are not many locations like this left in the world.
I grew up on the north coast along Lake Erie in Ohio. We had an island with the same honky-tonk flavor. Sadly, big business has taken over. Charm disappeared and money ruled. When the rich discovered this charming island, they put their dollars into it, and in doing so, removed the culture and made it a destination where the rich take their yachts to get drunk and do what they cannot do at home. And now, it is no longer a simple honky tonk island, but a money making machine.
I want the North Coast to be a destination. I own investment property here. I, like other investors, want the area to succeed.
But I don't want it to succeed at the sacrifice of its culture and charm. And I don't want it to be a place where money rules.

One of the better medical facilities on the North Coast - CMC Medical Center. Also within walking distance from many of Sos?a's neighborhoods.
