How many times have they tried to launch a Dominican Airline and failed ?

Too many to count.

The consistent thing is they are still planning on using the same aircraft as the last time 4 or 5 times they announced.

DC-9 and MD-80 series aircraft are ancient history and highly fuel inefficient.

Good Luck to them.

Taxying would be OK.

If they can get this off the "ground" that would be a good thing for the DR.

I am not sure about that, it's probably safer for all if they stayed on the ground...

I don't have the tourism numbers, wouldn't a more regional option with a Turbo prop be a more viable business model ?

Go after closer transit destination like Miami, Puerto Rico, Cuba ?

DC9's, yes. But Delta still love their MD80's.
But 737-300 classics in very decent mechanical state could have been gotten for slightly more dollars

And also pilot certification would have been easier, and opportunities where to certify them, more plentiful.

The national institute of Civil Aviation certified "Pan Am World Airways Dominicana (Pawa Dominicana)" as a new Dominican carrier.

El Caribe ? Pawa Dominicana volar? como l?nea bandera del pa?s

There is already another Dominican airline flying, Dominican Wings. But with Lithuanian capital background I think the Dominicans would be too proud to call Easter European Gringo owned airline as "bandera airline". This PAWA one though, is "only" Venezuela owned.

Here We,..?DON?T GO? ,....AGAIN!!!!!!

The name ?Pan Am? has been sold several times, here in the DR.They book the passengers, collect their money, and either never fly, or after building up HUGE fees at USA airports for non payment of fuel and landing fees, just disappear again leaving passengers stranded, and creditors holding-the-bag!!!!

They should call it,...?Pichardo Airlines?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Delta only uses the last in series of MD-80's....MD-88.

I doubt PAWA will fly MD-88's. Earlier versions perhaps....but not the 88's.

As I said....Good Luck to them.....like the Semana Santa death pool....we can soon begin one for the demise of PAWA the airline.....again.

Years ago, I flew Dominicana de Aviaci?n to the DR because it was cheap. It was never on time, the planes smelled icky, but it was cheap and they never lost my luggage.

Once I arrived at SDQ to fly back to Miami, and there were about a hundred others waiting with me. After four hours, they announced that the flight was cancelled, and that those of us with tickets should gather at one end of the counter and they would arrange to take up into SD and provide a hotel room. Strangely, only three others and my self came to that end of the counter. Some other passengers were yelling and hooting, and one guy was taken away by security. Finally, they sent a van and we were taken to a hotel which was not too bad, somewhere E of the Ozama River. Another of my fellow passengers said that he heard that the plane had simply dipped its wings and flown on to Caracas, because there were not enough paying customers to justify landing. He heard something about avoiding landing fees. Apparently, he had overheard some of the ticket counter employees talking.
So it turned out that the plane was filled with people flying free, either because they were government or airline employees or their relatives.

i flew on that airline once in 1989, and when it landed in the DR it looked like a sanitation truck had detonated inside it. i had never seen that much garbage outside of the Arthur Kill landfill in Staten Island.

Would not surprise me if they bought the recently (last year) defunct Dutch Antillies Express fleet which had the same planes............and flew into SDQ most days.

Now that was a terrible airline in it's final months and the planes were very old KLM stock.

I read those birds were ex-Delta.

Might have been Delta retires.

Their last equipment list indicates the newest plane they have is an MD-87...likely a Delta castoff. The rest are older MD 80's, a DC-9 and a Jetstream.

Perhaps they will lease newer and better equipment, perhaps they will finish construction of their webpage, or update their facebook account, perhaps they will gain FAA certification to fly into US territory and be able to get gatespace......perhaps they will make it this time.

Perhaps.
