It would help if you give your location. Also, what portion of the permanent renewal is difficult enough to need lawyer assistance? I've not done the permanent residency, and I know it isn't the exact same as temporary renewal, but much of the process would be the same, no?

I’m in Santiago.
I have always used a lawyer to avoid the hassle and get it over with.

If it just standard renewal you can do everything online and there is no longer a need to use a lawyer. There really is no hassle anymore. You can do everything online and in general you only have to wait an hour or so in the Santo Domingo office. Then it normally only takes 30 minutes to get your cedula done. The new cedula office is about 5 minutes from Agora Mall. But if you feel more comfortable using a lawyer then I recommend Tamara de la Cruz tdelacruz@dcrarquitectos.com (809) 779-2912

Does anyone know a trustworthy lawyer that I can use to renew my permanent residency?
The one I used for years has retired and I need to renew this year in November, so I want to find a new one as soon as possible.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
If you can read, no lawyer needed ! Do it online by your self. Very easy process.

they will send you the notification at the platform to do the medical
So I do have to go somewhere for the medical exam.

At my last two renovations, I didn't do one. I used a woman who used to work there so she may have had something to do with it.
She lives in the US now (sniff), but she told me she has somebody who will handle mine for me. We'll see.

Yes, you can do everything online. My last two residency renewals I did myself as well as the cedula. I did not have to do a medical for my last two residency renewals. I now have a 10 year 'definitive' residency. The one prior to that was a permanent residency and once that expires you can apply for a definitive providing you have lived in the country for 10 years. You have to create an account here and then follow the instructions depending on which residency you require. https://personal.migracion.gob.do/Account/CheckEmail

I do not think that you can renew your cedula at the moment as they are issuing a new type of cedula later this year and so any cedulas that have expired or will expire this year will still be valid until the new cedulas have been released.

I don't think that's true. Dominicans have not been able to renew their cedula for some time, pending the new cedulas, but for Residency you still have to do it. At least, my friend did a couple of months ago.

Thank you, Tee.

I'm a little confused. I need to renew my permanent for the 3rd or 4th time and it says I need:
  • Carnet de Residencia Temporal.
  • Carnet de Residencia Permanente, original.
I have my permanent card, but my temporary card is long gone. I wonder why they would ask for that?

Also, navigating to the temporary residency (RT-9) requirements from the link I shared also shows the same "Personal Identity Card" bullet. I don't remember ever being asked to show any other ID, and I know I've never uploaded any other ID than my temporary residency card, cedula, and passport.

That's odd, JD. From this link I have saved, https://migracion.gob.do/en/servicio/renewal-of-permanent-residence/ it says this:
• Original Permanent Residence Card.
• Personal Identity Card, only for verification.

I suppose online translations can differ a little. Are you asked to upload any other ID than your permanent resident card, cedula, and passport?
That's what I get too when I click on your link, but then when I go to the DGM service portal, I have to select "Residencia" that takes me to the page with a list to choose from; when I select Permanent renewal it takes me to the page I mentioned in post 14.

BTW, on the link you posted, down towards the bottom item # 5 is instructions (kind of) for the medical exam.

I'm still a few months from having to renew, so I'm going to wait until 4-5 weeks before mine expires to start the process and I'll deal with it then.

Perhaps or interest to the OP and others: I was talking to a friend yesterday about residency stuff, and he said a friend of his has been waiting several weeks for an appointment to do his permanent residency (not sure if it was initial or renewal) and his lawyer indicated it well could be delayed until the new cedulas are available. I realize the residency card is the more important of the two...I only use my cedula when changing money at Caribe Express or when I send a motoconcho to pick up a package at Domex. And I know they never look at the expiration date :)
