Two gringo tourists were detained (arrested) by CESTUR on Cabarete beach. They had decided that they would take a swim in the midst of hurricane watch. Now they will enjoy the carcel and lose a few pesos before they get out

Thanks that answered my question. The police were enforcing the stay away policy along the Malecon in SD. I went to take some pictures and a officer  told me I was too close to the water.

Firstly they need to design a new bridge. But to do that they need a soils investigation.

The design is piled foundations, they formed the steel cages and the piling rig was on site drilling the piles last week.

In the interim they precast all the bridge deck beams which are ready alongside the road.

The idea is you put in the piles and columns form a beam either side and then crane in the already made precast beams.

Programme

Feasibility and funding plus soils investigation and report 1 to 2 months
Design 1 to 2 months
Tender and Procurement of contractor 1 month
Precast deck beams and cure for 30 days 3 months
Piling and bridge support beams 1 month
Place precast beams and pour deck 1 month
Cure and surfacing etc 1/2 month.

So in reality they have wasted maybe two months but as you know in DR nothing happens from December to February in public works.

It is a process for public works which would not happen if the country had a more dynamic competitive business environment rather than a brotherhood.

Well, I'm glad to hear they are finally doing something. They started out real well and did quite a bit in the first three months of the year. I was travelling over the bridge quite often. From about April to the end of August I saw almost nothing done. Everytime I went over the bridge there were no workers anywhere to be seen, construction materials were in the same place, and everything looked exactly like it did before. They seemed to have shifted all their efforts down around San Victor.

The bridge in Burende on the autopista between La Vega and Santiago has badly collapsed.

When I go over that bridge I think I might be in "Nambia".

How bad is it? Is the north coast now cut off from Jarabacoa and points south in that direction?

and he was right to tell you so. you enter a closed zone, you get kicked out.
such safes lifes, while other places hide behind constitucions and the people die.
all areas atthe Ocean around the Country been officially Closed as part of a Alert.
violating such advisory is like going out to have a party on a Beach during a Curfew.

Photographs of workers clearing trees which have blocked Samana highway can be found on presidential twitter account along with some info on Burende bridge closure....may be clear by now

the poor Expats gated communities around Plaza Bavaro, White Sands Area still have no power.
tell him to bring small Plantas, he can sell them here in no time, those GRingos have Money and they need a shower and water for their toilets. they pay every price for a lil Planta, lol.
here within Punta Cana streets are fine, passable.
the highways from St Dgo to PC been passable yesterday already without a problem.
i don't know about the road up to Miches and further, none of the people i know came or left from that side the last couple days. I can imagine that the region Uvero Alto/Miches has areas under water.

I am not in Bavaro nor White Sands but I hope they can have their power restored soon just like other people in the area ... no need for anyone to be a profiteer in these times

It's the double bridge between rt. 21 to Moca and Ave. Rivas, both in La Vega.

It will slow down traffic on the autopista for months as trafic gets diverted over one of the bridges.

I sure wouldn't want to be here on the north coast and needing to renew my residency any time soon!

One can go east through the Samana area and down to Santo Domingo. Faster than through Santiago from some locations.

Having a delay to cross the bridge in Burende will simply be an inconvenience if one side is still open.

With only one side of the Imbert bridge open it was a two hour backup just to get from one side to the other. That ride is long enough!

Dependig on the time of day, even from Cabarete going the Samana route will add another 45 minutes to your trip.
