Cabarete
I am the one that posted it,Amazon ships it to Colombia and then it is passed off to a Colombian courier company called Pasarex and they deliver to my home. Quick and efficient and many items ship free.
No charge from Pasarex?

If that's how it works here, it wouldn't surprise me to hear DOMEX does it. They are light years ahead of the other island couriers.
We've only been with Domex for a few months now, but as I agree with you, I wonder why is that? Who is behind the company and why are they different?

Domex is one of the oldest in the business, IIRC. Started 1994 as a messenger and distribution service by the father and now run by the son.

I believe they were one of the first to offer home deliveries.

And from Grok:

DOMEX plays a significant role in specialized logistics, such as managing high-value document deliveries for consulates and embassies. For instance, the U.S. Embassy in Santo Domingo has partnered with DOMEX to deliver renewed U.S. passports and Economic Impact Payment (EIP) checks to American citizens in the DR. This collaboration highlights its reliability and trustworthiness in handling sensitive items.
The company boasts a workforce of over 800 associates and manages a distribution volume exceeding 5 million packages annually. Customers can track shipments in real-time via the DOMEX website (www.domex.do) or app, and the company offers additional services like customs management for imports and exports, inventory handling, and packaging solutions for online businesses. With a strong social media presence and promotions like free shipping credits for new users, DOMEX continues to grow as a customer-focused leader in the Dominican courier industry.

Interesting. Yes, businesses that run in the family, as far as I have seen, tend to be run properly. I did not realize they were this old.

I have one complaint for them: It appears that they are using the same software for their tracking/customer UI page as BMCargo. And the same payment processor. For some reason, that I have this far not understood, they have always declined all my debit cards when trying to pay online for packages. I have no idea why. Last I tried to subscribe to their Membresia Black when it was in offer for one year, and got the message that card issuer declined. Problem is, I have the card issuer's App on phone and no transaction even arrived, so there was nothing for them to decline. As they are the only website that has declined my card, I don't know whey they do this. BMCargo uses the same software and I had the same issue with them. Their reply was that I can pay with card at the branch...

Correct. You can use a local CC but not a foreign/US CC online. I can call the Domex office and give them my CC number and that works.

No charge from either Amazon or Pasarex, amazing.
Sounds like it works great for you! That leads to another question - what happens if you aren't home when Pasarex delivers? I know I wouldn't want a package just dropped off at my outer door on the street....it's be gone in a flash! If the courier left a note for me to then go pick it up at their office, that might work okay.

Any idea why is that so? I mean, I would assume they have many expats as clients and they are promoting international trade, that's their core business after all...

Yes, if you call Domex office and give them your CC details, they would enter that into their POS device, which is practically the same as me paying personally with a plastic at their location, and that works. So as a company, they do accept international cards, just not their website software.

When the pandemic began, and BMCargo stopped accepting cash as payment, I first tried online payment and as that did not work, I called them. Their answer was "it's just the way it is"....

I would try DOMEX if they had a Cabarete office or delivered to Cabarete. But they don't.

So , nobody has found a way for Amazon to ship directly to the DR without incurring major shipping costs.
No surprise that method of shipment from Amazon to DR does not exist after all.

It will happen sooner than later. They have opened offices in every nook and cranny in the country. I'd bet even money the search for a spot is already ongoing but they're not going to pay gringo loco prices for a small office.

Amazon does have free shipping to the DR, on orders over $49 USD. When looking at individual items, the shipping can be pretty steep. I haven't put items into my cart when using my DR address to look at it more in depth, but you can't say it doesn't exist. How it gets to your door...that we don't know :)

Somebody had posted in this thread that they had received Amazon shipments in Colombia...can't find it now so maybe a moderator deleted it. If so, my question ties back to the DR so hopefully we can all see an answer...how were those shipments delivered? Is it similar to here where there really isn't a post office as many of us are used to? I'm curious how Amazon would deliver here, and maybe that answer would be similar to how it's done in Colombia.

It might have something to do with the fact that Amazon has a warehouse in Bogota.

How do you pick it up? I don't care if I have to drive to Cabarete or Sosua?

Amazon first level chat told me that if I order and it is shipped to the DR , either there will be no charge for shipping or they will refund the shipping to me if there is a charge. I was directed to:

Order with Free International Shipping

Orders shipping to an eligible international destination with at least the stated minimum dollar amount of eligible items, qualify for free international shipping. To see all eligible shipping destinations and order minimum requirements for each country, go here.

You can identify eligible items by the "FREE Shipping" message on the product detail or search results pages. Canceling items, combining orders, or changing your shipping address, speed, or preference might affect your order's free shipping eligibility.

The following qualifications also apply:

  • You can only ship to delivery addresses located in eligible international destinations.
  • You can ship to multiple delivery addresses, as long as you meet all FREE Shipping requirements for each address.
  • FREE Shipping order minimums vary by country and are based on US dollars (USD).
  • If you use the Amazon Currency Converter, the local currency amount reflects the value equivalent to USD at the time of purchase.

If you're shipping to an address in an eligible country, follow these steps for free shipping:

  1. Set your delivery address to the eligible country
  2. Add at least the minimum amount required of eligible products in your shopping cart. Any Fulfilled by Amazon item that indicates free shipping on the product detail or search results pages count towards your free shipping order minimum.
  3. Proceed to checkout.
  4. Ship your items to a shipping address in an eligible international country.
  5. The FREE AmazonGlobal Standard Shipping option is selected automatically for customers who meet the eligibility requirement.
  6. Place your order. Your estimated delivery date is stated on the order summary page.

Note:If your order doesn't qualify for free shipping, it may be because:
  • The shopping cart includes items sold and shipped by a third party seller.
  • Only items that qualify for free shipping count towards the minimum dollar requirement. Delivery fees are charged for all other items.
  • VAT and Import Fees Deposit don't contribute to the minimum dollar requirement

I am an Amazon Prime member so:

Next I went to an upper level person who said to check FREE AmazonGlobal Standard Shipping option during checkout.
Then they asked for the Postal Code which is 57000 for Puerto Plata Province including Cabarete
Then... They went off for a long time...

Then they had me wait longer. Oh the suspense. Then I got bumped up another level to a "Specialist" , than another specialist..
I now have forgotten how many specialists I was forwarded too...

This was obviously not a simple question as AND then

It depends on the items

You can add address and check for free shipping availability

Then I asked if it can be shipped free who will deliver it to me?

It will be delivered to you by Amazon logistics

So now you know what I know so far,
