An Ideal Vehicle for All DR
I have to say that after all the comments I have started thinking seriously about the Hyundai and the Kia ranges and the Sportage all wheel drive caught my eye and has a performance and fuel efficiency that makes some of the models mentioned look ancient.
But then the Nissan Qashqai has been described in reports as a better performer and those reports I read make it look better. Nissan was fourth best seller here.
I want low purchase cost, low running cost, sleek modern aerodynamic design, 4 wheel drive, good back up and a decent turn of speed especially 1 to 60 plus nibble handling and warranty.
This is a next year new purchase and the interaction of comments are helpful.
Nissans are great vehicles. the only issue i have with them is that their 6 cylinder versions are really thirsty. outside of that, they are a nice choice.
Extraordinary that no one appears to have mentioned safety which to me is the number one consideration living here.Nor ease of having the vehicle serviced.
I own a Qashquai. I cannot say enough about this car. I bought it new, full, with 4 wheel, large moon roof, leather seats, etc.
Have had it now since 2011 and not one issue, runs like a top, handles great. AC will blow you out. The view driving is like nothing I have experienced in any other car I owned. The hood is slanted down and you are like what some call "King of the Road."
Also having seen the Rogue I would say the Quashkai has more room.

You would be keeping the British end up with the Quashqai, they are built in Sunderland.
Well, fortunately Nissans, Kias and Hyundais fare quite well in safety testing.
The Gorgon is the expert here, but the truth is most late model brands are largely similar in terms of general performance, safety and durability. There really isn't that much difference between entry-level cars or light trucks from the major manufacturers.
Of course, that's because the midsize car and light truck categories are so competitive, a substandard product wouldn't last very long in the market.
Rogue = longer wheelbase, longer car, wider, more cargo...

you have summed it up with very few words. there is no longer the gap between cars like there was in the 80s. when Hyundai made the Pony, it was a joke compared to a Toyota Corolla. nowadays, the Avanti can compete heads up with a Corolla, at a far lower asking price.

Similar in size in interior room is about the only equal comparison (slightly more for the Rogue).
Cargo capacity is much larger with the Rogue...if that is a consideration.
Rogue has a wider wheel base and is longer.
3rd seat is available for the Rogue only.
Quashkai has a standard 2.0 liter engine while the Rogue has a more powerful standard 2.5.
And of course as one would expect...a slightly higher price point for the Rogue.

I like the Q and apparently it sells well - worldwide (made in UK somebody here says)

I would do it here - very good reviews - plus no Rogue here.
Contrary to the Gargoyle, I prefer to buy the 'export' models sold here
Less fluff, complications , catalytic converters.....
My 2005 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited still complains via 'check engine' if I feed it regular gas only.
It prefers a 50/50 mix of reg + Prem........
On an old Jag I knocked the converter off.... indep garage just removed it
Ran like a dream

Made in China and gets bad reliability reviews and harsh ride - hard to get parts for, won't be sold here in near future
They all seem to have similar miles. If they are taxis I wouldn't want one (a lot of them are orange). I worry about the higher running temps of gas vehicles and how that might damage motor and exhaust. I assume the valve lube issue is no problem on these fas cars. Where is the gas tank located on these factory Hyundais and Kias ? Is the trunk smaller ?
As it is not sold in the US, I do not have access to safety data for the Quashkai.....but the Rogue performed very well over the last few years.
But reliance on past data is not effective or reliable as new models/design changes come out.
Suffice to say 2015-2017 Rogues are good safety bets....but may not necessarily be at the top of their game quality or resale wise.
Example: Dodge Dart was a stellar performer in the safety tests.............but dismal in quality and resale.....and has been discontinued. Your 15,000 Dodge Dart lost 1/3 of its value in the first year....in spite of being a top safety pick.
Individuals need to priortize their wants/needs and not rely on blanket statements like all Toyotas, Nissans, or Honda's or Hyundai's are great. There are often large gaps, depending upon year, make, model....even within manufacturers.

the propane tank is in the trunk. as i said, most of them were taxis, or rentals.
