In Panama every Christmas I?d buy a pig, would tie it for a day to a pole so it would calm down. Then I?d bring it some food and while eating I?d hit it between the eyes with a hammer, right away I?d hoist it up and cut its throat.
Don?t think the pigs ever knew what hit them.
Don?t like to make animals suffer either but I love to eat them.
Have been to slaughterhouses many times but I?ve seen the animals suffering especially when the shot was badly placed. Well we don?t know these things when we buy the meat do we?

Its one thing to humanely slaughter an animal. However, if it is screaming for 20 minutes, that to me implies a very inhumane death and that these fellows hadn't a clue what they were doing. I would have a very hard time listening to that
I have slaughtered many pigs in my lifetime and do not recall any "screaming". As soon as they are stunned by whatever method, you never hear another sound out of them. Quick and painless.

I have done farm work. Cattle, sheep, chickens, turkey and pigs. I was taught to KILL the animal quickly then bleed it and process it for the table.

But we live in a different culture that does not consider the animal.

The 20 minutes of screaming are more likely them trying to pin it down and tie it up and not actual suffering. Pigs tend to be a bit reluctant to have their throats cut and they are much stronger than dogs when it comes to subduing them.

I guess we won't be seeing you at the cock fights either. It can be a tad brutal as well.

I find it interesting to hear some peoples comments. I can only guess that they have never had to slaughter an animal nor been anywhere close or that they are part of the chase it down and and slit it's throat.

So tell us how YOU have been able to get your bacon, BBQ ribs and pork chops. Did YOU do it yourself or buy from the store?

I ambringing a 'butchering book' w/ me later this month..... in Spanish published by the Ontario Pork Board.

Seeing as some of you seem to slaughter your own animals.... whatchathink?

The way they butcher the meat is a waste.... just selling it by the pound.
they would make more money by knowing the proper cuts - IMO

We;ll see... even if all I do is buy my own pig and have it butchered and frozen , I'll be happy.

Full cuts of ribs, roasts, etc

Think that's a good idea / To try to teach them to butcher better?

Living in Panama I had four or five dogs living on the front porch of my house in the jungla. One night they started barking and carrying on. I also heard another animal screaming and crying, sounded almost human, but I was afraid of whatever outside after dark that caused such a ruckus among the dogs, that I kind of cowered inside. The next day the neighbor was proud of the fact that he had butchered a pig and did I want some of the meat. He said he'd sliced under the Achilles tendon and hung it up before slicing the throat so they could catch all the blood. No I didn't want to watch the next time.
Der Fish

We quickly would KILL the animal, do the tendon as you describe, hoist it head down and then bleed it. Not interested in catching the blood.

This is NOT how its done in halal slaughter houses!!! and the use of a knife has always been the preferred method in Ireland and our meat is exported world wide because of its quality.

Yes things are way different in slaughter houses.
1- they stun the animals first
2- the workers use a 22 round to shoot the animals on the base of the neck to cause immediate death.
This process is done to help stop panic so the animal doesn't pump more blood into the legs and profitable meat parts. Less blood in those parts its easier to drain and better meat.
But watching anything die for me is a horrible sight.

I've NEVER seen your export. Never. And I'll never buy your export if I should ever see it. But please enjoy it in Ireland.

I read your from Ireland, but is this a Muslim or Orthodox Jewish business? Their food laws require knives that's why I am asking.

Country butcher shop in Northern Michigan has their own slaughter house and the pigs are always slit at the neck and hung to bleed out........I don't eat pork! The cows get a much more humane bullet to the head while restrained in a stockade....don't eat beef.....I guess if I actually watched a chicken slaughtered I wouldn't eat that either, but then again we fished the Great Lakes and fish is gooood....so I guess it is all about what you have grown up with and what you have available to provide food for family.

You know nothing about me, or my life. So get down of your white horse.

Not all pee their pants when they finds out the bacon aint born in the fridge.!

I remember in France in the country side they use to cut off the chicken head and push the chicken to run without head a 100 feet before crashing down. In the Dominican rep. in the countryside (campo) we where using a steel bar one shot at the back of the spine. Death was clean and withing a second. I like better the second way to eat my pollo.

we are having a pig roast tomorrow, and I have seen how those people kill the animal... they first feed it at that same place for a couple of days, so it is comfy.... then he punctures the heart with one swift stroke...

The animal does not suffer... btw they are locals, but they love animals.
