Fabio just posted that an expat on a motorcycle was struck and killed by a cement truck.

I hope it wasn't one of our members.

Be careful out there.

His name was Adrian Ayroomlo, a 34 yr. old from Florida. He decided to drive on the sidewalk to get around a cement truck and fell over under the wheels.
Can't see much in the video, but he looked a little wobbly.

Very sad. An example of why the Cabarete Bypass is needed. Traffic even in low season is very bad through town.

My condolence to every one who knew the man.

5 Americans from recently rented a Villa near me, one of them well could have been this man. A couple had African country accents with broken English, the others did not sound foreign born to me.

All 5 rented passolas. 2 of them were very shaky and one crashed less than 60 yards from the villas front gate on a perfectly flat road and scrapped himself slightly.
They obviously had little experience on 2 wheels.
This is the wrong country to learn to operate a motor bike, even if it has an automatic transmission
And if alcohol enters the equation the future is even less optimistic

not to say anything derogatory of the deceased , but the video clearly shows the Truck was at no fault whatsoever. this guy touched the curb with his front tire, then completely lost his balance, and FELL under the wheels, and did not even react or try to save himself .
Not sure what state a person has to be to completely lose it this way , especially someone as Physically FIT as a Kit Instructor ... bur one can certainly guess .
May he RIP Condolences to his Family and Friends ..
Thank goodness for this video or this Honest working Truck driver would possibly have to live with Guilt for something which is clearly not his fault at all .

There's no curb, but the edge of the road there is very irregular and uneven with the asphalt being much higher than the sidewalk in many places. I'm not surprised that he lost control there. The accident reminds me of the man that tripped on the uneven shoulder in Sosua and fell under a cement truck there, too, I believe(?).

They did fix one side of the road in Cabarete . The south side of the road has nice sidewalks and curbs in most places. The south side has been ignored so far.

Two people falling under cement trucks because of bad surfaces is quite something.

Which side has been ignored?

Going east into Cabarete, it's just a short section on the south side from Helados Bon to Scotia Bank where there are no curbs and the sidewalk is bad. The accident was maybe 100 yards to the east of Helados Bon.

Anyone can come here and rent or buy a scooter. The balance and aspect ratio is different than a bike. Tires are also fatter and the scooter can easily become derailed going up a curb on an angle. Same for rocky or broken surfaces

The Man was a KITE Surfing Instructor though ..

that pretty much cancels out the Out of Shape , no balance , weekend Warrior Scenario.
Something else was at Play here .. Dont want to speculate .. but how much effort would it have taken for him to Push off with his Left hand .
To literally fall into between the wheels .. that actually takes some doing
again, may he RIP .. very sorry this happened .
its such a terrible way to go .. those last 2 seconds .. Horrible .

So what does it matter if he was an instructor? He simple rode up sideways on broken pavement and lost his balance.

You using all caps doesn't change that he simply lost his balance on broken pavement

Edited: unless your suggestion is someone gave him a push

Losing balance and then recovering from it is what his sport is all about ..

you must be joking , you really can not be serious ..
or you just do not even remotely associate with Athletic types his age
.what they can do, makes those of us ( myself included ) who have put on a few pounds and many more years , look rather foolish .

lemme spell it out for you .. imo this man had a few, or quite a few cocktails or whatever else .
there is zero other possibility
