I do! Safety in terms of what? In my early years here I had my card cloned often and they did not have the amenities they have now. Every time a transaction goes through I get an email from my bank. Gives me peace of mind because I know if there's fraud, having my money returned is a nightmare. The system they have to transfer funds sometimes can seem antiquated but it works. I left BHD for Popular and have not had any issues. I do think it is much harder to do things at banks now as a foreigner.

Banco Popular is really good. You can easily pay bills, it normally shows you the balance for services like your electricity and phone accounts, and you can easily transfer money to any other bank. Much easier than standing in line, and much safer to transfer money online rather than walk around with bundles of notes.

My wife has been banking with BHD for 25 years and me for 11 with no issues. She does a lot of online banking, me very little because I am in the bank a minimum of 5 times a week.

Popular has won awards for their internet security protocol. I use it every single day and have never had a problem.

Banking in person in BanReservas is NOT what I like to do with my spare time.
It pays to know people from all walks of life. Rarely do I wait more than 15 minutes
to speak with someone
If online banking works for your schedule cool.
I do as little as I can. Mostly with the states and asia for the obvious reason.
Time is money.

Just wondered how safe this is.
It maybe obvious for some but choosing the right bank for online banking may not be the only criteria to be safe .
The type of connection and device that the user is using may be as critical....

People should never used an unsecured WIFI connection to check their banking statements.Username and password can be intercepted.
Hackers can setup hotspots with WIFI names which look familiar to you when they actually provide an access point to internet where they will be analyzing
the internet traffic to intercept any potential username/password .

Same for public computer....Should never used for any banking activity. You never know what kind of software can be installed to intercept user credentials.

Online banking should only be done over a secured connection with 2 factors authentication enabled.
FYI,2 factors authentication is the technical term to identify the second password that you need to enter after entering successfully the first password.
It's usually send by email or SMS.

If a bank does not support a second factor of authentication ,it should be a non starter for any online banking activity...

All the above is not specific to DR.

Banco Popular with their token also is an added security. Never had online banking problems with BPD and beats waiting inline..

(1) Use a VPN client and have it enabled 24/7. Why use a free WiFi hotspot when unlimited data costs next to nothing?
(2) Wow, that sounds very 90s, does that still exist?
(3) Definitely true, but you have to set it (is not the default setting) Single Factor Authentication is default.

Tip: Also don't borrow 'a friend's phone' to log in to your bank environment.
Tip: Keep some RD$, EUR, US$ close at hand in case of glitches

Not entirely on topic; do not withdraw a large amount at once at an ATM..... these sometimes refuse service, or there are spectators around you ;)

Nevertheless; life is good on the island!
Cheers!!
