I'd have to make room. Not many other options available.
I'd strongly recommend you buy a cheap or used split A/C. You may spend a little more, but you'll make up for it with your electric bill.

And have you considered burying your friend in a nice place instead of cremating?

Not an a/c, but you should consider getting headphones with noise cancellation capability. Though pricey (there are cheaper ones, don’t know how effective is their noise cancelling capability) can’t go wrong with Bose.

Combining them with ear plugs greatly reduces the noise level.
Funny you should say that. I'm in DR now but ordered a set to be delivered to NY on next monthly trip. The price range was all over the lot! Like $15-$600.Really. I bought at around $60.00. Listening to a Dominicana talking to her mother...I guess she thinks just because she lives 3 hours away she needs to talk at debicil 9. It is what it is.

The cemetery is just as expensive. I don't have property and I'm sure, even if I had someone that would let me bury them on their land, finding a taxi to transport a 60 pound dead dog will not be easy. Body pick-up, transport to cremation place, box for ashes, paw print, return ashes to me almost rd$20,000. I really don't need a box, just going.to put ashes in the water where my son and many of my family are, but they said the box is included.

The smallest window unit I've seen is quite a bit wider (and larger) than 13 inches.

Also, the portables aren't exactly small. The base has got to be at least 16 inches wide or so. Do you have room for that?

here;s a couple from FB

Tell me again, why don't you want a split unit?
If she moves...she throws the portable in the truck. Split unit a tad more work with removing and re-installing

I would consider just getting a standard split unit. It won't cost much more(maybe the same) as a portable unit and will use less electric. The portables tend to be very inefficient. It will definitely be a lot quieter. You only need a small 2.5" hole that can easily be filled back in if you move. Check with your landlord.

But then the outside part needs.mounted and secured and then wiring to the fuse box and new meter installed.

Not sure why a new meter would have to be installed but, yes, the unit would have to be mounted on brackets or down on the ground. I don't know what wiring problems you might have(?). Installation including holes, wiring, and mounting the unit usually runs around 4500 pesos. I just added a second unit to my living room. That's what it cost me.

I have THIS one in Canada, works great, no need to drain water as it self-evaporates, is less loud than a window unit would be but it's not silent by any means. Cools a fairly large bedroom.

I.ve had mine in my room for about 8 years now (my windows are also too small for a window unit). It has a 6" duct but has an attachment that goes on the duct that reduces it to 2'x8". I cut a 4" board the width of my window and traced and cut out the hole for it to fit through, works great. It somehow (magic maybe?) vents the moisture out through the duct and does not need a drain tube and has no pan to empty. As stated it is a bit noisy but no more so than a window unit. It is a DeLonghi The duct can be cumbersome and take up quite a bit of room, I have mine on a stand directly in front of the window so that I don't have the guct going from it on the floor to the window. Hope this helps!

I have one in my office that is used only on occasion for short periods of time. It works well. Bought a second for my tiny casita. Plugged it in and almost started a fire. The plug and cord burned up immediately. We threw out that air conditioner and bought a split one.
