My husband and I have invited a friend of my husband?s to visit us in Toronto. He submitted his papers a couple of weeks ago and got a call yesterday to go next week for an interview and was told to bring his passport.

To anyone that has invited someone to visit them in Canada, is this normal procedure? Does everyone get an interview and then at the interview they say yes or no or is the fact he?s getting an interview and that he has to bring his passport a good sign?

Also, any insight into what they might ask him at the interview would be very helpful.

Any input is appreciated.

I think most are just told NO!

I would think the fact they asked for an interview is positive....at least they have a chance instead of just saying NO.

Best of luck!

Very very few visitors visas are granted. Often the interview is simply the step they need to take in order to say NO. Sorry.

Thanks for the replies. I know very few are granted. That is why I want to know if EVERYONE gets an interview? If not, there is at least a little glimmer of hope and I was wondering what they might ask him besides the obvious of why do you want to go, how will you support yourself for your trip, will you come back, etc.

FM send a pm to eve_bebe00. Her Dominican brother was recently granted a visitor visa to Canada. Not sure if he had an interview

Most don't get an interview - they are just flat out told no and given a list of why - that was our experience when we went - with all the people that went the same day - all went back and were told no after the 10 days were up.

Thank you all. Anna I have sent a PM to the poster you suggested so I'll see if she has anything helpful to add.

Correction

Okay, so my husband misunderstood what his friend had to do. As it turns out, he dropped all his papers and his passport last week. Then yesterday, they called him and told him to come next week to pick up his passport. No interview. They did not indicate one way or the other if he was denied or granted a visa. Any thoughts??

Unfortunately (and keeping in mind that I don't know your friend's circumstance)unless he has traveled and has very strong ties and very good reasons to return to the DR he'll get a no. But I think you know that. ;)

Yes, of course. I just wondered if they normally might tell someone on the phone if they were denied? It's so heart breaking to think we may never be able to invite friends and family to visit us here! I wish there was a way of making a personal undertaking to ensure someone will leave if they were granted a visitor's visa stemming from our invitation, but I guess that would be hard to enforce.

Unless anyone has any other thoughts on this, I'll let you know next week what happens. Thanks again.

cir****ances or luck

He prob. travelled before or have a good job, if else then he is lucky.

I was happy and shocked that they gave a visa to my father last year
because it doesnt matter how much he had or how much I have, doesnt
matter either what the person inviting does for living, the Canadian Embassy have a lot of requierement to grant a visa that even if you bring what ever they are asking I always expect a no answer from the Canadian Embassy and let the yes answer to be a surprise.

I wish he gets the visa.

Yes they denied him a visa to attend your wedding and he had two kids to return home to at the time. I wonder if it's because you are now a Canadian citizen?

No idea, I've talked to some other Dominican who are permanent resident
and they had their relative to come, like someone mentioned here that the embassy
just simply give you a paper saying all the reason that the visa was denied. They dont do the proper investigation for the fair and right person.

Immigration policies are hard to understand, I know a guy that had a criminal record in the DR brought his parent on a visitors visa and now the guy is a citizen.

people get their visa either because they are lucky or the officer at the moment feel
like giving visa i guess.

The two times that your dad applied did they tell him on the phone one way or the other before he went to pick up his passport whether he was denied or approved or did he just have to find out when he got there? I am just trying to determine if they would have told him on the phone if he was denied?

When we did it we were given a ticket to get in the embassy and get the passport back and told to come on a specific day and time when we dropped the papers and passport off - it was exactly 10 days from the day we went and dropped off the paperwork. They said when you got your passport back it would either contain a visa or have a denial letter. there was no phone call.

My husband and I applied for his visitor's visa last year before we were married, we went the embassy and dropped everything off. The lady said everything looked good and we had everything they needed. She gave us a receipt and told us to come back 10 days later. I was already back to Canada when my husband went back to Santo Domingo. There was never any phone call, but he was denied at the embassy. In fact everyone that was there that day picking up their passports was denied. I hope you fare differently!
Good Luck!

He was never called for approval or denied, it was fustrating
I was in Cuba I wish I knew or had hope that he will get it
So I didnt have to go to cuba, instead I will have gone to dr.

After that the issue was getting a cheap flight

They dont tell you if you are approved or denied.
The passport is always submitted with the VV application.
They call you when its ready for pick up. Only when he gets there will he know if he is approved or declined (visa in passport or not). If not approved, they will give him a sheet with the reasons why.

My husband was denied a visitor visa and I don't know if it's because he is in Haiti himself, but the same day he dropped off the fee and application is the same day they denied him... right then and there.

One of the biggest reason at this time would be that he is already in process for Immigration. Just that simple.
