Hi Anna,

We had actually applied for the visitor visa before we applied for the sponsorship. The IO told my husband that they denied him because we are married and should be applying for permanent residency.... at that point we had not gathered all of our paperwork, so we had not turned in our application. It kinda feels like either way... we would be denied. But, I will be applying for a visitor visa again for him... I have read in some of the immigration.ca forums that people who have done this may have had their applications approved faster because of this... not sure if this is true or not... but, I'll be gambling 75.00 just to see.

Honey you are donating a lot of money to the government. Don't believe everything you read on the internet (including this one sometimes.;)) if doesn't come from CIC website. Yes you were married when he first applied for a visitor visa and that would be a reason for him not to return home when the visa expired. They cannot be convinced otherwise at this point.

Repeatedly applying for a temporary visa while in process for Family Class PR visa will not make things go faster, it might just seem that way because you are doing something else while waiting. Did they give him a reason this time?

Of course you are free to do what you like and if it makes you happy by all means keep trying.

Hi Anna,

No, we didn't apply for our second visitors visa yet. You probably do have a point about throwing away money... I guess I am just trying to come up with ways that may reunite us faster. I think I will just try to wait it out, rather than keep applying for a visitor's visa. I guess I just thought it would be the right thing to do so that the IO knows we really want to see each other, considering I haven't seen him in one year. This is due mostly to financial reasons and my job. If he were to come here, it wouldn't be as much of an expenditure, as me going there. But, I guess I will just wait it out.

If I believed everything I read on here and on the internet, I would be nuts by now! :p So, you have a good point... lol!

Thanks for the reality check... lol... I tend to build castle's in the sky in order to get through this tough process... :p

I used to visit the same site you're talking about (remember me from the lonely PAP thread?) Anyway I came away with a different perception than you did regarding visitor visas. What I understand, and what seems to make sense to me, is that if you are in the process of immigration and you repeatedly apply for a temporary visitor visa, it doesn't look good- quite the opposite. It may appear that the Dominican is trying any and every way to get to Canada, because he or she can't wait for their immigration process to be over. I understand that to us, it is about seeing our loved ones. However, in Immigration's eyes, it may just look like he or she has a burning desire to be in Canada no matter how. That could make your immigration application look suspect in their eyes.

That's just my opinion, but because of that (and because I am 99.99% sure that we would never get the VV) I would not apply for a VV while in the process. I think Immigration wants you to 'respect the system' however slow it may be.

It's just something to think about though.

There is what is called "dual intent" which is applying for a visitor's visa while your PR status is pending. I will be trying for one shortly, with some strong supporting letters etc. I have been told from people who work at CIC that this is possible, and have seen many a case where it is allowed, however I'm not sure how often PAP approves this sort of thing - we'll wait and see. Perhaps my case may be different in that the purpose of the visitor visa will be so that my daughter(a CAN citizen) can join me with my wife in Canada until the papers come through - if not I will give assurances that not only my wife, but I will leave aswell. I'll keep you posted - should be within a month or two.

Hi Sweetkiwi,
I do remember you from that forum as well.

I guess I do agree with what you and Anna are saying, I think my husband and I are going to try for the US visa instead. He studied there, has family there and the US seems to be a little more understanding when it comes to visitor visas.

Plus, my parents are there, some of his family, his university buddies and host family he stayed with for one year while he was studying. So, I think we will likely be approved there and it just makes more sense to do what will more likely be approved.... lol. I'm not going to throw away 75.00, Anna had a point....

Plus, I was lucky enough to have the support of my new manager and will most likely be going to Haiti after the holidays. Sucks I won't be with him during the holidays and our anniversary.... but, at least I will get to see him for a late celebration! :p

Well our friend found out today that he was denied for a visitor's visa. My husband was very disappointed but it was pretty much expected. Oh well, that was our first experience with Immigration Canada regarding a visitor's visa application so now we know first-hand! My husband did not get all the details yet about why his friend was denied so once I know more, I'll post it here

Our friend also met two other Domincans there (one man and one woman) who were married to Canadians and they were applying to go visit spouses in Canada and they were both denied as well.

FM,

Sorry to hear the news. Hopefully things will get a little easier in the future.

El_U,

I think they call it dual intent so that they can legitimately take your money ;););)

Please let us know how things turn out.

Good Luck!
