NALs posted in another thread that additional scrutiny is being put on the maintenance of DR airlines and they could potentially lose their authorization to fly to the USA if irregularities are found and they could lose that ability for many years.

Stay tuned for that in about a month. I would not purchase tickets very far out if you are going to the USA.
Only Arajet of these new DR airlines come across as really professional. But time will tell.

And as a remark Arajet do not have flights to USA and that do not affect any other flights they have to all their actual destinations, 2nd. Too much speculations on news spread by some experts that looks like they wants to have their 15 minutes of fame.

I think they could do fine without the US fligts. They just cooperate with a US airline that doesn’t have the Caribbean and Lat Am connections. Even better.

In case that we are downgrade, They dont need to do that because Bain Capital has under their umbrella Arajet, Virgin Australia and Icelandair, they only will have to register some of their airplanes under any of those other airlines, sign a wet lease and ask the permition to fly between DR and USA and put small sign telling Operated by Virgin Australia or Icelandair. The crew must from those airlines. To be downgrade only stop Dominicans Airlines with Dominican Registration to ask to open new routes or new airlines to fly into USA. Aircrafts under wet lease from a country that has cat 1 will have green light to fly from Dominican Republic to USA for any Dominican Arilines. The existing flights will be able to continue flying into USA if we are downgrade to cat 2 too.

Today on sales the new route Santo Domingo SDQ to Montreal YUL, 4 x week, starting Nov. 7th, working now with conecting flights.
They must also have Toronto to Santo Domingo flights on sale as well because I was shocked to see them as a connecting option for a trip to South America.

Google flights is showing the Toronto to Santo Domingo flight on Tuesdays from October 31st to March 12th.

Yes, 2 weeks ago they launched Toronto, they have now a lot connecting flights, only few routes are out of the connections but I saw they started to work to get ready to incluede in the network Lima because they reschedule de departuring time from SDQ and coming back now next day so that way will be possible to make connections.

There is a price war, a friend of mine wanted to book a flight to Sao Paulo in specific dates as his plans to go USA changed but prices changed, Last week with Arajet the lowest price (Smart fare that only include a personal item) for the dates of travel was 640.00 USD rt flight and Copa dropped their prices with Carry on included to 585.00 USD but yesterday Arajet dropped the prices for same dates to 443.44 USD booking with Smart fare and adding Carry on and travel assit. I think Copa started to see the competition coming from Arajet and with all the new routes opened and conecting flights they are having now. For example now from San Salvador people can connect with 10 destinations and Santo Domingo.

A relatively new fleet.
If maintenance is done according to maintenance schedules not a bad alternative.
Good for the DR to get their own fleet with international connections.

Arajet flying to the USA is dependent on the inactment of the Cielos Abiertos (Open Skies) agreement which would allow any Dominican airline to fly to any international airport in the USA instead to only a few along the east coast. Until now it has been ratified, but now a new twist against it.

In today's Listín Diario there is a full page ad of what is the stance of Asociación Dominicana de Líneas Aéreas (ADLA) which represents airlines with mostly Dominican capital and/or legally considered Dominican. The motive for the rejection is because they think this could spell the end for most Dominican airlines as supposedly they will have less Dominican government support.

And what does that mean Riva ??
The actual agreement between USA and Dominican Republic only let to fly Dominicans airlines to JFK, MIA, SJU and 2 extra airports within USA territories and for USA airlines to SDQ, PUJ, STI and POP from the same airports, flights from diferent airports need special authorization and a lot paperwork and waitting, but in our case USA airlines has already open skies here because all routes they want to fly they get it, and as sample just check how many cities has flights to Punta Cana from USA.

About what are asking Dominicans airlines its before sign the open skies with USA for them to compete the goverment here need to discard charges and taxes that must be paid for them here as are registred as Dominican airlines, foreign airlines in their countries do not have such taxes and charges making for them more easy to have cheapest fares and that will be hard to compete for Dominican airlines.
