All I know is I used to have two conventional 12K BTU splits and I traded them for two inverter 12K BTU splits and my electric bill went from
3-4K pesos every month to half that amount.
The higher the SEER, the more efficient they are.

I'd love to know how anyone gets an electricity bill of RD$ 2000 a month. Even when I'm not living here mine is more than that.

Well, it's surprisingly simple to calculate a bill. I only went to state school, but I think the kWh rate is published. I'm sure folks that don't have AC can see bills for 1500 pesos easily. I'm sure some poor folk would find your comments arrogant. I know many with bills of 800 to 1000 pesos also. Many people have a fan or two a fridge and a tv. They all don't own Dominican fortune 500 companies 😂

When I'm in my home town, the bill is not exceeding RD$200 a month. Only internet and security cams(run on solar panels) is on.

Ours has consistently been around 700 - 800 DOP/month for almost 3 years here. No AC obviously, but we have fridge, microwave, coffeepot, and washing machine. Fans used a lot, especially at night. Oh, and no Tesla either.

Oh hush now with your bitchy comments Hijo, you sound like me and the girls on a drunk night out talking about someone else's make-up.

You sold the Tesla then? I got rid of mine too as well as the helicopter.

Do you not have a freezer? I always have food in the freezer and don't want to throw it away if I'm going home for a few weeks, so that means leaving the fridge/freezer turned on. And it's an inverter, the most efficient I could buy.

How many light bulbs? Are they regular bulbs or LED? What else is connected?

In truth I think the culprit is the inverter. The power goes off a lot and so the inverter comes on and soaks up a lot. The last time I went away I turned the inverter off and I did notice a saving. None of my bills from Edeeste ever make sense though, it's like "think of a number, any number, now add a few zeros, now double it"

We want to install AC in our bedrooms. We live outside Puerto Plata. Our electrician can purchase the following brands: Aire Conforstar (cheapest), Aire Airmax (a little more) or Aire Innovair (a little more still). I am actually less concerned about price than I am quality. Anyone have experiences with these, or suggest something different?
Freiderich..The one and only…for window a/c. It is brand you can Trust,

Don't pounce on me but what is an inverter? I know what a split A/C unit looks like
An Inverter A/C is one that has low voltage circuitry and the compressor is variable speed based on demand. In a regular A/C the compressor either runs or doesn't, and consumes more electricity when it does run. A variable-speed compressor consumes a lot less.

Are inverters or outside units put into a cage to prevent thiefs? Reason I ask is because in my home country I have had my outside compresors stolen two times when I overlooked the cage during renovations.

I understand SEER performance and 20 sounds correct. Now inverter enters my life with a new purchase I am making. So, if an inverter keeps going on and off...how important is the quality of the inverter and would the seer rating be any less important?? (BTW I have no experience with an inverter.)

I guess what I am trying to say is ...if an inverter is faulty in any way would that not negate the function of the AC's SEER rating?

I think you’re mixing two things. An inverter with batteries to power the house when electricity goes, and an inverter AC. With the split AC, the inverter is built in. Has nothing to do with the house inverter. You can’t run an AC from a house inverter AFAIK. You need a generator.

Clearly I could be mixing things up but in post #30 Maria said she shut off inverter. So I guess she meant the inverter to house/apt., since the inverter for the AC is built in. I need a little clarification here. Sorry...I want to have this clear in my planning of the renovations on my new house.

Exactly right. She shut down the inverter while she was away (uses a lot of electricity to recharge the battery bank).

Many thanks AE...very helpful for me because after next week I will have two houses in the DR and need to cut cost and still be cool. lol
