That would be totally unacceptable to me. There is no Plaza Lama near me, so I don't buy from them. This keeps me from thinking about buying from them for any such item.As I stated, WHEN the technician could not fix the problem at my house, I was the one they said was responsible to get the unit back to Plaza Lama in Santiago.
The technician did the disconnect, but he was on a motor bike, thus I had to deliver the unit for repair, which Plaza Lama then sent it off to Santo Domingo for repair.
It took over a month to get it back.
I have heard the same story from other peop;e........Plaza Lama is the WORST place to buy appliances and any other high item electronic devices.............They have been known to sell refurbished items labeled new also.
Is that even possible? I am searching now, and every single one has a digital panel. All of the above advice is great, but no one mentioned STAY AWAY FROM ANYTHING DIGITAL. Find one with just regular knobs.
I bought an expensive new washing machine several months ago a Frigidaire and the computer in it broke down shortly after wards and no one would honour the guarantee and there are no new parts available in the capital or the east .I bought it at Jumbo , just as bad as Plaza Lama . Like everything electrical, it is best to buy something that is simple . I have had better luck with Corripio but I think it is a hit or miss affair . I have bought smaller electrical items at Cuesta at Punta Cana with better results.
There have been times I have deliberately tried to sidestep the warranty process in JUMBO Luperon and they insisted. Not only the special cashier, but the security guy at the entrance has to stamp and date the receipt when I leave. It would take some pretty special circumstances to get around that.I've never had problems at Jumbo or L&R.
In fact Jumbo makes you go thru a special cashier for electronic warranties. This is both in San Pedro and MegaCentro.
No such luck at la Romana ..they only have display washing machines and they send away to the capital for every order and then you have to wait weeks to have it installed..unless you use a local plumber which then invalidates the guarantee
My luck with Plaza Lama was the exact opposite. We bought 2 AC units, 2 TV's, washer/ dryer combo, freezer and several small appliances and never had a issue with any of them. One thing I realized living in a high humidity location was brand names don't really count, especially with TVs. the last 2 we bought where Technomaster and they have been working for over 4 years. The Panasonic and Toshiba didn't last that long.Plaza Lama is the WORST place to buy appliances and any other high item electronic devices.............They have been known to sell refurbished items labeled new also.
If you ever need appliances, go to Casa del Pobre in San Cristobal ( it has another name but that’s the one everyone uses), near the big park. Ask anyone. Once we found them, we never bought anything in a regular store again. They have a few locations in SC. We bought our new inverter fridge/freezer there last trip.My GE Stacker fried the control card (I thought) about 8 years ago.
I bought a new one from www.searspartsdirect.com (remember that name) and put one of the appliance voltage protector plugs I always talk about and it's been fine since.
By the way, any time an electronic appliance quits working, investigate if it can be reset first.
Just because they quit working doesn't mean they're bad; in some cases, there is a reset procedure to get them going again.

I looked up their official name for someone, here’s their Facebook page. Several locations, some mostly furniture, some strictly appliances. We went to the appliance store and they sent us to the furniture place because that day the washers and box freezers were there. 🤷🏻♀️If you ever need appliances, go to Casa del Pobre in San Cristobal ( it has another name but that’s the one everyone uses), near the big park. Another good plug for laundry room equipment is a GFCI cable. My GE Stacker fried the control card (I thought) about 8 years ago.

Those are really good as well. The main difference is you have to manually reset the breaker when it pops due to a voltage variance.Another good plug for laundry room equipment is a GFCI cable.
It's also good to use for pumping water from the cistern to the tinaco, for anyone who has to deal with that.
I was in Sirena yesterday in San Cristobal. They had a few models available and most were under 1000 pesos.I'd think you'd want both in any place where it's possible for the floor to be wet. The surge protector protecting the equipment and the gfci protecting people. I currently only have the gfci positioned just behind the control panel so that it's just another button to push. I should look into an appliance protector also.
