Which Law?

Is the question not answered?

So far I have found two pieces of independent information that agree on a limit of 20,000 RD$ (undeclared).
To me the wording in the customs form is far from 'clear cut', as in my opinion it only refers to US currency.

I wish, Fabio Guzman could help...

i believe that janin is trying to confirm that the DR limits the amount of actual pesos, not an equivalent, entering or leaving the country....at 20,000 pesos.

this has little to do with the $10k limits from Canada or the US except that it would have to be included.

i also believe that some countries, like Cuba, limit or forbid their currency to enter or leave their country. possibly to limit counterfeiting or to reduce printing costs to replace currency that has left the country and is no longer in circulation, etc...

well except for the links you have provided i do not see a limit of $20k in pesos.

in this link
Dominican Republic
near the bottom of the page you will see this:
SPECIAL CIRCUMSTANCES:
Currency Regulations: It is legal to exchange currency at commercial banks, exchange booths in hotels and exchange houses. The exchange rate is set by the Central Bank, based on prevailing market conditions. The market determines the exchange rate. No more than USD $10,000 or its equivalent in another currency, including Dominican pesos, may be taken out of the Dominican Republic at the time of departure.

--------------------------------------------------------
i see this $10k USD limit on many, many other sites also.

i would suggest contacting a Dominican Consulate to get a more definitive answer.

I am afraid # 13 of the said form refers to US money and/or any form of that currency.
My question is about Dominican Pesos and the limit of this local currency to bring into the country.

Janin

If you bring pesos the limit, without having to declare it, is $$ pesos to be equivalent to 10 000.00$ US

Since the origin of these funds is obviously questionable and the OP does not have the substantiating documents to legally transport the funds, a simple solution would be to buy a plane ticket for a few mules to transport $10K/RD$33K a piece.

Reading Between the Lines

What makes you conjure all this up?

Oh, and was it not you who asked (me):
"Can you read Spanish or English?" :cheeky:

I wish you luck in your border crossings and business ventures.
Well, I have been living in this country for more than eleven years and do not have plans to cross any border in the near future.
I do not own a business here and don't want one.

I also wish you well:

10,000 vs. 20,000

well except for the links you have provided i do not see a limit of $20k in pesos.
What is '$20k' supposed to mean?
If it stands for 20,000 DOP (= Dominican Pesos), then here are the relevant quotes from the two mentioned websites:

1. "Travel Notes:
When traveling to the Dominican Republic, one should be aware of the various restrictions placed on currency imports and exports, namely:
Import and export of Dominican Pesos is restricted to amounts under 20,000.
Import and export of foreign currency of amounts over 10,000 USD must be declared. "

2. "W?hrung: Dominikanischer Peso
Ein- / Ausfuhrbeschr?nkungen (in Landesw?hrung, je Person):
E: Landesw.: deklarieren ab DOP 20.000, Andere W.: deklarieren ab USD 10.000
A: Landesw.: deklarieren ab DOP 20.000, Andere W.: deklarieren ab USD 10.000"
FYI: E = Import; A = Export.

No more than USD $10,000 or its equivalent in another currency, including Dominican pesos, may be taken out of the Dominican Republic at the time of departure.
Interesting.
Now we have some contradicting website information. :bunny:
Yet the above sentence does not stipulate the limit of Dominican currency which may be brought into this country.

i see this $10k USD limit on many, many other sites also.
Not in question, really.

My question is why would someone have over $RD20,000 in CASH outside of the country?

And if I sell my property in the D.R. How much money , pesos, US, CDN) will I bring with me outside of the D.R. or entering the USA or Canada??? Well, a lot more than 20 000.00 RD so I'll have to manage some other avenues if I don't want to declare it.

And by the way the law, at least USA and Canada, states that money means all monetary instruments (coin, currency, travelers checks and bearer instruments such as personal or cashiers checks and stocks and bonds).

Just because Janin is asking doesn't mean the funds are questionable. You don't need documents to transport more than 10 000,00$ US or the equivalent, you must declare it though. As I said in another post, if I sell my property in the D.R. I will leave the country with more than 10 000,00$ US. Is that a crime ???

As for the mules, I hope the mules will be honest..

You "can" bring in as much as you want, as much as your duffle bags will hold.

Questions are asked at $10KUSD, so govern yourself accordingly.

Would you mind telling me the port of departure, flight number, flight date, arrival time, and arrival airport so I can help carry your....
