There are laws specifically forbidding non-citizens to get involved in any political activity in the DR.

When you bring in elected officials, it becomes political.

I wonder how apolitical civic support could be construed as political just because a politician or two showed up, especially if the group's charter specifically forbids political activity. Other civic and religious organizations operate and sponsor charities in the Dominican Republic (Lions Club, etc) and politicians don't have any problem showing up for a photo op with them.

Of course I wouldn't even think of suggesting creating a permanent organizational affiliation there without prior legal consultation. I was just throwing an idea out there. Every maze has its own map.

Nothing wrong with some ideas. Better than just rolling over and laughing. I have been to Guarnavaca in Mexico. It is about 10 years ago now. I remember it to be a very nice town. Well organized and low crime. I have often wondered how it looks today as I think 10 years ago it was better developed than anywhere here. Maybe because of the strong expat influence.

Solutions and stats

It's obvious Dominicans are not posting. Well, the OLD SCHOOL Dominicans are not posting at any rate. The solution is simple but with limp wrist Leonel Fernandez that simple solution will not be implemented in any substantial form. Many here want to engage in 1ST World solutions which have never worked there. Deal with crime the way they used to do it in the old days.

YOU EXECUTE CRIMINALS in the streets. Those thugs who have long rap sheets were killed by the police in the old days quite extra-judiciously. Lately, I've been hearing and reading encouraging reports that they are beginning this time tested method once again but the process is quite slow. Hopefully, it will take on a Candelier fury sweeping the nation and once again order will be restored.

A while back an Army major was killed in Boca Chica to remove his army issued weapon. The solution was simple. His family members themselves Army officers went on a warpath. They went to Boca Chica to Los Tanquecitos and stated unabashedly without reservations that they came to KILL those murderers. A chase ensued in which the four culprits were cornered. They begged for mercy and pleaded for their lives. Everyone in the neighborhood knew these cretins and were privy to their continuous crime sprees. The family members executed them on the spot without shame. That's the solution for crime in the DR. Once a few thousand have been quickly exterminated, the DR will be calm and serene as it has been known to be.

As foreigners living in the DR, you should ask for this publicly. Some may believe otherwise but a foreigner's opinion in certain contexts is listened to. I feel this would be one of those moments.

Solutions from more developed soceities may not work but nor does in my opinion their type of statistics. I think there must be so much more crime here that is not reported. It would be nice if foreigners had that influence you are suggesting. I dont think so but there is nothing wrong with good ideas. When my car was stolen some years back it was found by the police about two months afterwards. I went down to Plan Piloto together with a guy from the insurance company to pick it up. I was lucky to get it back with no damage actually it was cleaner than before as they where planning to sell it. They found a lot of cars in one crackdown. I guess this gang got to greedy and just kept stealing more and more cars. Unfortunately for them they started stealing from the wrong people including one from the management of that insurance company where my car was insured. He was carjacked and had his landcruiser stoolen. So more pressure what put on the police it seemed.

you good ideas will never leave this webpage and nothing will change regarding crime in this country. I have been to cuernavaca, about 14 yrs ago; believe me, DR is no cuernavaca. Hahaha
I guess it would be a better idea if you guys focus on how to bring the cuero rates down in sosua. This will directly affect lives of many expats and will bring joy and peace in many expat communities. Hahahaha

It all starts with this, until this changes for the better and the Gubmint gets super serious....

<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/51418611@N05/5052555528/" title="Education by bocachica64, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4106/5052555528_5a736a0050.jpg" width="500" height="349" alt="Education" /></a>

This might start to happen......

<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/51418611@N05/5052536802/" title="education22 by bocachica64, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4103/5052536802_b0af27a8dc.jpg" width="500" height="393" alt="education22" /></a>

It also has an awful lot to do with this.....

<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/51418611@N05/5052567792/" title="in_greed_we_trust by bocachica64, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4111/5052567792_e4ab0bd937.jpg" width="432" height="303" alt="in_greed_we_trust" /></a>

We know who wins here......

<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/51418611@N05/5052571256/" title="ihasafunny-greed by bocachica64, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4108/5052571256_295bbef06b.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt="ihasafunny-greed" /></a>

Which leads me to......

<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/51418611@N05/5052549312/" title="corruption by bocachica64, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4131/5052549312_51efc7807e.jpg" width="450" height="305" alt="corruption" /></a>

<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/51418611@N05/5051920167/" title="corruption by bocachica64, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4144/5051920167_753e5928e1.jpg" width="500" height="357" alt="corruption" /></a>

<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/51418611@N05/5051922871/" title="definitionCorruption by bocachica64, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4129/5051922871_2bf2a1f9e0.jpg" width="409" height="500" alt="definitionCorruption" /></a>

Now of course I realize greed and corruption is worldwide, it just seems it's taken to another level at times here.....unless attitudes change.....I hate to say it, I see business as usual........
