We have some stuff that resides in NY and mostly are household stuff. I was informed to use like BM Cargo, they provide Doral, FL address and that is where I ship there with all paperwork then they will ship to SDQ terminal then have it delivered to Cap Cana office for me to pick up, correct?

Is this the affordable way? I know I'll be paying silly duty fees because of what stuff I am bringing unless anyone can give me better advice.

Thanks

There are shipping companies all over the NY area. Ocean freight, door to door, one price.

To clarify/add to what AE posted above, yes, I'm sure you can ship whatever you want with BMCargo, but that wouldn't be cost effective. You would receive your goods within the matter of 1-3 days, but you would pay a hefty price for that. The thread "mudanzas" posted by AE lists these "mudanza" companies that ship via sea freight (as far as I have understood), charge only a fraction of what a courier like BMCargo would charge, but you have to wait up to a few weeks for your goods. These shipping companies quote a price for your before doing anything, and at least how they have done with us, you pay in cash when they bring your goods to your house.

Anything that has more than 10-15 lbs of weight, I would not ship with a courier, only via the above mentioned shipping company.

We've this far used Awilda Shipping, can only recommend them.

Obviously, we are sending 11 boxes and 4 barrels so I guess I'll go for the sea freight then for cost effective. I'll go through and find one I want. I know there is a company based in NJ that can ship directly to DR. I'll contact my wife's bro, he always use and pay $60-80 for one big box up to 100lbs.

If you're near Long Island in NY I have been using this company for years with no problems and good prices and service with boxes and barrels. https://www.facebook.com/TonnyShipping/

We shipped from our home in Kansas City with a local Dominican fellow known by all in that area so we had an extra middleman and a few extra miles to get it here. Were required to use 18X18X28 inch U-Haul boxes. Well taped. Really well taped. One charge. Boxes sailed thru Customs here. Entire trip from KC was about two weeks and the charge included the boxes being delivered to Sajoma. No Customs fees. Perhaps my cost included something for them I don't know. The only extra charge was for the tv we shipped. That charge was $8 a diagonal inch. Ouch! I'd check local NY mudanza companies before using a Miami shipper if I were you like the other posters have mentioned.

I guess they want to keep DR vendors to keep selling TVs a ridiculous prices. A TLC 43 which is $148 USD at Walmart is $29,999 RD at Sirena.
But at $8 USD a diagonal inch import fee, that would prevent importing such a TV unless the under $200 USD and no additional duty rule applies instead.

A TCL 65 inch set is about $1,000 USD at Sirena and $400 USD from Walmart. About a $600 USD difference. Seems a bit much.

I think this has been discussed on this forum to have been the case for years and years. TVs being the only problem item to be brought with. As a result, people bring in tv's in their luggage etc.

I don't know if this has been because nobody noticed or if the limitation is just really tv's, but as a fact, we have imported a few larger wide screen computer screens, those were in their original packaging but inside a moving box with lots of other items. Awilda has always been happy with the items being "household items", and nobody has ever asked any further questions. I'm talking about screens up to like 28-30 inches. We have never imported with Awilda just one item in one box, always used the largest available moving boxes and stuffed those full, with miscellaneous items and clothing on top usually.

Now virtually impossible for Americans since such boxes are not allowed on planes from the USA.

I would like a new computer monitor so that is on my list of potential door to door shippers. Currently looking for those options and finding the prices to ship a large wardrobe box to be a bit pricey from Miami.. Getting quotes of $250 to $300 USD for such an 8 cubic foot sized box.

I just brought in a Samsung 27 inch computer monitor I got at Walmart for $120 in my checked bag. I took a measurement of my suitcase before I bought it, opened it up and wrapped a towel around it. No problems at all............

I think people have imported these without any boxes, so just like Sky posted above, just in your luggage and wrapped in clothing. I would also not bring any particular boxes with me on a flight.

I have not done this coming from EU, but I have stuffed a printer-copier-scanner without any boxing in my checked luggage once, we were just ignored coming in via PUJ...

Windy, I just bought one on Amazon a couple of months ago and had it shipped through Domex. Came packed very well. 77 bucks

34K 4.5 stars can't be wrong.

I ordered a 24", and they also have 27" for 99 bucks.

I can say from personal experience that sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. PUJ seems to be easier than SDQ. My son had issues at both SDQ and STI with a computer monitor in his luggage. My brother had no issues at PUJ.

Can't speak for SDQ and STI but I can assure you that in PUJ if they see it and you tell them it is a computer monitor it will go right through. And this is not a guess...

I bought a 43" 4k Fire TV (no need for a fire stick in case you use Greg Volt) in December from Best Buy (Insignia brand) on a 1 day sale at $119.00 US. I use Blumbox but Best Buy will not ship to them, however they will ship to Blumbox from their Best Buy Ebay store and into Miami with no sales tax. Shipping wieght was 25 lbs., verified when I went to pick it up. RD$12,000 pesos total cost. Perfect condition when it arrived and they insure it for an additional RD$ 500 pesos. I have a 55" TCL, to me no difference in quality.

Perhaps for 32 inch TVs and you can fit them in normal luggage. No way it is possible for any large TV from the USA like a 55 Inch and up model.
I doubt it could be done even for a 43 inch TV.

There are limits to the size of items in checked baggage in total inches that would be violated when coming from the USA.

Thanks for that . But it still cost almost $200 USD to ship and recieve a $119 TV with a total price of about $320 USD with shipping. Certainly better than $8 per inch for shipping, but still no bargain.

I am guessing the 8 dollar per inch ridiculous charge kicks in these days for TVs that are over $200 USD purchase price in the USA?

Sirena has TCL smart 43 inch TVs for about 20,000 RD which is about $320 USD at the end of the day (of course without the Fire part of the deal you got. IP TV can also be done with a different APP which might is probably available for the TCL).
