The general manager of the hotel was interviewed this morning by Junior Henriquez and confirmed that only certain areas of the hotel will be closed (the parts being remodelled).
Gracias a Dios, no es cierto que Casa Marina Cerrar? sus puertas

Puerto Plata Digital (who published the original report) is now reporting that the Manager strongly denies that the whole hotel will be closing (not that you'd know that from the headline!):
EJECUTIVOS ADMITEN INSTALACIONES HOTEL CASA MARINA SER?N REMODELADAS

True, but we also have to recognize a tendency on part of dr1ers to leap into action before checking "facts".

Maybe dr1 needs a fact checker.

It was me who started the thread & there are some employees who still think it will close (presumably some of the ones being laid off), despite the story to the contrary in the papers, but if the management are saying it won't, then that's good enough for me.

I have a good contact there, an employee, but high enough in the organization to know what is going on. He assures me there is no thought of closing, just remodeling.

Not the first time they remodeled in the summer and this would have been carried out without all the speculation if given the opportunity. Summer time is the logical time; we use the summer at condo I live in for major maintenance, like pool repainting, for same reason.

Casa Marina/Reef seem to do very well. Don't know if they make a lot of money, but they generally are one of the leaders in this area with respect to percentage of rooms occupied.

can anyone translate those please? we're due to get married there on September 16!

You can get married on schedule. The resort plans to honor all reservations and will do the remodeling section by section so that there will always be sections available for hotel clients.

This is a fine resort with many clients and you can be sure that they are not going to cut off their nose to spite their face. They want your business both now and in the future.

It is unfortunate that this thread caused unnecessary concern and I am sure added to the email and telephone traffic into the hotel from alarmed reservations holders and travel agents.

thanks catcher.....

so basically, far from being in its final death throes, the resort is actually committed to carrying out major refurbishment requiring a huge investment, but will require sections of the hotel to be shut off intermittently on a rolling basis between now and completion in October....

the sensationalism evident in this thread would make many a british tabloid proud...

Thank you for contacting Sunwing Vacations.
While some buildings will be closing due to low occupancy, the resort will remain open.
Packages will still be available to book and the hotel will provide the best rooms available between the beach and reef sections.
Thank yu,

Just to point out that when I started this thread, I did have a source (not the newspaper). Unfortunately, they were wrong, for which I wholeheartedly apologise. However when I told my source (an employee) they were wrong & that management had denied that the hotel was closing temporarily, this was the first they had heard, so I'm not sure how things get communicated to staff... My source wasn't the group of employees who spoke to the newspaper btw.

I suspect there is a lot of unease about the future availability of work, possibily not helped by what happened to some staff at Breezes and Sun Village.

I think this thread has run its course.....somebody put it out of its misery please.

I agree, please pull the plug moderator. Best if it can be erased all together so that the title of this thread doesn't continue to cause needless panic.
