This has been covered before but I posted this article because there is more information on what they want. Like your Passport............

Applicants will need to provide travel documentation, such as a passport, as well as personal information, education level, current occupation, anticipated trip details, and any criminal convictions.

I think it’s a very low fee. More important are the requirements.

It’s just formalities but not fun to forget. The equivalent the Esta for Europeans to the US I have tried having to fill it in at the last minute at the airport in Santo Domingo. One time AA was very nice letting me get on the next plane. The Esta you can fill in on your smart phone. I am sure the European equivalent will be just as easy. The Esta is valid two years. I don’t know about the EU one.

It's supposed to be 2 years as well. Completely mirroring the ESTA.

It's actually good for up to 3 years, multiple entries. The fee is 7 Euro and the only official site is (not actively accepting applications yet):

Yep....I've had to apply for that ESTA for years when I want to go to the US.
Don't think the US should then complain when Schengen asks the same of them.
I have to say it never bothered me. I believe it had to do with security. Didn’t it start a couple of years after 9/11. Immigration and travel is going in that direction. More security.

There are plenty of things that happened in the name of security. This is just one more way to make sure we are all good to go.

I feel less secure now while visiting the EU and USA than I've ever felt in the past. Currently debating whether or not I'm going to do a month in Europe prior to flying back down to the DR.

By the way, they don't refer to the thing being paid for as a VISA.

ETIAS is definitely not a visa:

Luckily you can’t travel with that.

So, I have edited several threads. The topic is US citizens needing a Visa to travel to Europe, hence US citizens traveling from the DR (because topics need to be DR related). Posts MUST be on topic.

Except it is not a visa. It is a "security clearance screening" device to also help prevent illegal immigration.
