Yes. Words and their meanings are important. Too bad you cannot correct the title of the thread.
In Sky's thread the headline from the NY Post says "visa". So right or wrong that is why the OP's title is as such. So, no further comment is needed about the title of the thread.

Adjust the title again please since it also applies to Canadians.
The Topic is about the change of travel requirements for US Citizens.
The same thing may/will affect many other countries, I did not look them all up.
We can open a new topic that shows changes of travel requirements for Canadian Citizens.
Cheers.

ETIAS travel authorisation is an entry requirement for visa-exempt nationals travelling to any of these 30 European countries. It is linked to a traveller’s passport. It is valid for up to three years or until the passport expires, whichever comes first. If you get a new passport, you need to get a new ETIAS travel authorisation.

With a valid ETIAS travel authorisation, you can enter the territory of these European countries as often as you want for short-term stays - normally for up to 90 days in any 180-day period. However, it does not guarantee entry. When you arrive, a border guard will ask to see your passport and other documents and verify that you meet the entry conditions.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So when you don't need a visa to go to the EU, you will need to fill out ETIAS and pay the fee.
The ETIAS is clearly not a visa so confusion was caused by poor journalism.

Dominican Citizens, for example, need a Shengen Visa and will not need not ETIAS, but Canadians and quite
a few other countries, over 60, will be required to fill out the ETIAS. All those country names won't fit in a thread title :D

It’s a screening to show you don’t need a visa. Visa waiver.
Not correct. It is a travel authorization for people from countries that don't need a visa.
A passport alone from a visa free country would be proof that a person doesn't need a visa.

This is an additional "screening" that you pass other tests to enter the EU. For security.
I am guessing that for US citizens they have a way to access your FBI records or something similar.

What it is is yet another PITA that makes travel more problematic. And some that used to be going to the EU
will no longer be allowed based upon their criminal records despite having a passport from a Visa free country.

So, I have edited several threads. The topic is US citizens needing a Visa to travel to Europe, hence US citizens traveling from the DR (because topics need to be DR related). Posts MUST be on topic.
To be honest this topic has nothing to do with DR or living in the DR.

Wrong, this topic has a lot to do with DR, as it is info for US Citizens living in the DR planning a flight to Europe.
Same as myself, a EU Citizen living in DR, I am always interested in news about any changes for a EU Passport Holder traveling to the US/PR, something we do often.
To me this topic is absolutely DR related, as we have many US Passport Holders as Expats in the DR, and we Expats living in DR like to travel the same as the ones who live at home.

It's not a big deal,

Just a pre travel clearance for visa-exempt nationals travelling to any of these 30 European countries., so they know who is coming in, just like the e-ticket.
Apply on line simple and fast as the link explains. https://travel-europe.europa.eu/etias/what-etias_en#etias-in-a-nutshell

It's the same as the US- ESTA application for citizens or eligible nationals of a Visa Waiver Program country.

Nothing has changed for US citizens who do not require a Schengen visa for the EU.
Citizens of the United States with a valid US passport can travel to 27 European member countries of the Schengen Area for a maximum of 90 days without having to apply for or obtain a Schengen visa for short-term tourism or a business trip.

An other hoop to jump through, but not very odious.
The e-ticket for DR makes entry and egress easy and takes a minimum of time to fill out.
ETIAS is a similar level of work.

Of course all travel is more inconvenient on many levels and all governments control people more than ever.
Old people without smart phones, computers and skills are screwed.
New world, no way around it unless we stay home.

All this is indeed a main reason why I finally had to get a phone recently. Hadn't had one since well before smart phones were a thing.

Indeed things have changed for US citizens because they will have to fill this ETIAS out and pay a fee for it. And if they have a problem, they won't be boarding.

XQT - I consider that a change.

For US citizens in the DR or anyone else it's easy.

Just hop on a non stop flight on Condor which will put you int FRA- Frankfurt the major hub in EU for frequent flights to anywhere in EU or the world.
Condor flies direct to POP-PUJ-SDQ great service economy-premium- business.

Well you can cough up the € 7 - USD 7.71
Just like all visa waiver countries have to apply for US ESTA.
Just like you won't board without your e-ticket.
And without your cell and apps and secondary verification for banking and whatever.
No-one promised it's going to get easier, oh contraire mon vieux.
No life without problems ;)

I will remember this option. Also I have heard Bruxelles Airlines to SD and Punta Cana

This applies to UK passport holders too, another benefit of Brexit...!

So my question from clever people of DR1 is, do I need this ETIAS if I just transit through, say Frankfurt, to London...? (as far as I remember I don't usually go through immigration while transiting.)

US doesn't have the concept of transit, so their ESTA always required, but it's not clear for this Europe ETIAS...!

So this would apply to anyone living in the DR traveling to the UK via EU and eligible for the ETIAS program?
