!) I never mentioned names, just hoped it was her.
2) It can be pushed
3) Curing the infection before you get here is important.

As for qualifications, I can speak only for the PUCMM graduates.
Our school's two main medical programs-medicine and estomatology (dentistry)- are based on the modular theory of education promoted by the University of Chicago, Harvard and a couple more places, as well as the WHO. The main thrust is prevention and preservation, and surgery as an option. The dentists try to save the tooth, rather than yank it out. It has been shown to be better medicine in the long run. What distinguishes our graduates is that they have so much practical experience by the time they graduate that they are not "feeling there way around" so to speak. You can imagine, if Ken, one of the most forthright posters on this board speaks for his person, just how good he/she must be.....(Besides the fact that she came thru my class, too!! ehehe)
If you come to Santiago, there are several options available.

A lot of food for thought here! I sat down and did the math (savings having dental work done in DR vs. US). However, because I would need to stay probably an extra week to get all of the work done, I would not be money ahead. Since I am self-employed, I would lose one week's income (up to $1,000) plus the added expense of lodging, food ($350 conservative, I think)and air ticket change (at least $100). If we say a charge of $400 for the root canal and crown in the DR for a pushed job is reasonable, then I would be over the cost of the job done in the US. by at least $100. If I have left out any other considerations, please feel free to remind me.

Thanks, Hillbilly and Ken, for all the great info. I am on antibiotics right now so the tooth is ready for the root canal or flying, whichever seems to be the best route.

tondra, if you loose $1000 a week, then stay there and have the work done. Or investigate going to Santiago for the work, since that is where the lab that does the crown is located. The time required is longer when done in Sosua because of the time lost getting the crown to and from Santiago.

You best bet if you want to get the work done in the DR is to get a recommendation for a dentist in Santiago.

One other thing I should mention is that dentists prefer to allow time between the root canal and the crown to allow everything to heal and to insure there will be no infection resulting from the root canal. I know in my case that the tooth was too tender after the root canal to permit the dentist to prepare it for the crown.

What are you going to do if the job is half done and your two weeks are up?

That's exactly right, Ken. After doing all of the investigation and math, I think I am better off to get it done here and just enjoy my vacation in the DR. I will take those names of dentists with me, just in case something new springs up.

Thanks everyone.
