Honestly, let's see if B6 can compete with Spirit. AA and Delta were not able to handle it because even with the same or lower fares, most of the passengers preferred Spirit instead.

Quick note about FLL: It is probably the least convenient airport in terms of flight connections. The Immigration area is very uncomfortable and it gets packed when 2 flights arrive at the same time, and then, having to walk from Terminal 4 to another terminal, and then going to the slow FLL TSA security points makes it even worse (specially on weekends, when a lot of cruise passengers are returning home).

I guess I'll stick with MIA

Well you have to remind that Delta and American doesnt have any hubs at FLL, thats why those routes didnt work..
JetBlue's 3rd more important hub is at FLL...

As a frequent traveler to the DR, clearing customs at FFL is my biggest pita. I think average wait time for me is about 17 minutes.

I am looking forward to Jet Blue's service in June, might even be on the maiden flight:cool:

If there were only 2 flights arriving at the same time, it wouldn't be that bad. The problem is that every afternoon, Spirit has about 6 international flights arriving within an hour of each other. Plus an Air Jamaica flight thrown in somewhere and the Avianca flight from Colombia arrives in the afternoon, which is subject to escpecially strict screening. Then after immigration you go into that miniscule international baggage claim with 2 baggage belts for the 8 arriving flights, then get into one of the only 2 lines for customs.

When I took a Spirit flight from SDQ at 3am and got to FLL at a little after 5am, I thought U.S. Customs would be a breeze at that hour. It turns out that Spirit also had flights arriving from Panama City, San Pedro Sula (Honduras), Managua, and Port-of-Spain Trinidad all arriving in the 5am-6am hour. Spirit uses their planes all day and all night too, they don't just sit parked for the night.

The facilities absolutely cannot accommodate the amount of international flights it now receives, plain and simple. MIA can be hectic, but at least its immigration facilities represent the major worldwide hub that it is.

el Catey

Does anyone know if el Catey will have any US flights resuming? Is it true that airport security was lacking, therefore, no more US flights, or did they just drop the airport when fuel skyrocketed, and demand dropped?
