Continental Airlines will retire from STI starting in September...

The bad news keep on coming, hope other airlines cover this routes soon or it will get ugly for passengers and airport and airline employees alike...

Right.....

JetBlue recently announced an increase in flights to STI.

JFK-STI is the route that jetblue will increase its flights..... Simple.... the will cover the whole that AA will leave when AA1889 goes down in september.

So... who's going to cover the very healthy amount of Continental customers from EWR???

No doubt Jetblue may now consider EWR-STI

I don't fly much on CO from EWR to STI (maybe 10%), but I can tell you that a lot of people in NJ will be disappointed if they have to start having to drive to JFK again to get a direct flight to STI.

This is not welcome news! :(

I just flew JFK to POP on Jet Blue and was told onboard that they are buying up many (if not most) of the routes that AA and Continental are giving up. And they are a much better choice - better service and each time I fly them we are early arriving in both directions. Now the only concern will be the pricing...

It will be a nightmare to start driving to JFK again, i hope Jetblue pick up NWK-STI route right away.

One thing we are not mentioning though, is that Continental is not stopping their POP-Newark flight, so i guess if you want to flight directly to Newark you will have to travel to Puerto Plata.

Ok, guys. Tell me, can I consider myself lucky? I just booked on AA (had no choice) for 9/13 thru 10/05 jfk - sti for $435.00. Personally, If think this is a good deal considering the dark future that awaits us travelers. Be honest.

That's exactly what I paid on Jet Blue for June to August - and booking it just now as you did, I think you did great. Just hope they don't cancel those flights!

By the way, Jet Blue now charges $5 for movies where before they were free and $1 for headsets when before they were free. However, the in flight crew gave both away for free.

I use to fly Jetblue the redeye route from JFK to STI. I didn't mind since I work in NYC and live in Jersey. I just man up and sit at the airport till it's time to board. If Jetblue can fly from EWR to STI it would beneficial for them and add an EWR to POP flight :devious:

Jetblue has become more competitive with the major airlines as far as their pricing, I would rather fly Continental than Jetblue. Just my opinion.

Are there any other airlines flying out of Newark to STI?? I can't even imagine the inconvience of travelling all the way to JFK from Patterson or Union, NJ, which has a large Dominican community.

As far I know No other airline from Newark to STI. If there is it would have to be a connecting flight.

It's easy to get to JFK if you know your way via NYC. Take the train from Union to NYC and then the A or the E train to JFK. It is just a hassle with your luggage but it can be done.

hey hipo!

Hey STIOP, any word on whether Jetblue plans to start EWR-STI? Thanks!

Hey Hipo.....

No they haven't.... they have confirmed increased frequencies (ie. 6 more flights a week JFK-STI) in the Sept to Dec which is good... i searched a Oct 2 to Oct 10 flight on Jetblue for 385....

They should put a daily EWR-STI now that CO is gone.......... Mark my words.... Jetblue is going to make a lot of mulah in STI now.... Imagine this... they are (beginning in Sept) the new I'm your boss airline in Santiago. Want frequencies??? want more options??? its jetblue now, not AA

keep in mind the Jetblue announcement came BEFORE the Continental reduction...... we will see..

No more EWR-STI on CO :(

Yeah this is a tough one for me. I live in Newark and appreciate the privilege of living in a hub-city with such a "big carrier"...CO that is. I travel to STI often and will just have to go via pop or sdq. One thing is for sure, just as easy as things change they can be changed again. It is a rough time all around the table. As usual (at least here in the US), the govt will normally step-in and heal the pockets of the airline so customers are complaining too much. And I guess when an airline flies into 4 cities (SDQ, POP, STI, and PUJ) in a relatively small country, it doesn't really cause THAT big of a problem since SDQ (3-4 hours and POP 1-2 hours) are really not that far from STI. Let's wait and see now what effect this STI flight cancellation has on SDQ and POP fares.

One fare in Sep on AA now $550. In this same time last year I paid $385 on Delta. Definately can see the difference with crude so high.

Tigre.....

Search Jetblue.com

Remember, after september AA has only one JFK-STI flight. Jetblue will have around 2 or 3 frequencies daily so you should get a cheaper flight....

remember guys, Jetblue is now your choice to STI from JFK......

We need another airline to compete with B6 to keep the fares low.....

Tigre searched Jetblue JFK-STI-JFK Sept 17 to 24 round trip in the morning (9am) flight for 405......
