Busy weekends are the Quinsenas.......
and frequently have no cash...
NYC has the same problem right now.......many empty
I load up before those predictably busy weekends
So...how many infected people walking around here? How many cases did they say? No one’s talking. Keeping secrets. All ministers suspiciously silent. Except that #21. But President Medina has issued his guidelines without speaking a word of what is going on with The People.
My tone recently has been more acerbic than usual, like I've mentioned before those among us that have trivialized what this is and is becoming are the ones that I've directed that towards and I'll continue to do so.I gotta say a find it a little worrisome that their seems to be a little a little CYA (cover you a**) sentiment looming here.This site has been one where I have read of the kind caring spirit of the people of the DR, a truth which I have experienced on a first hand basis,when in Rome is the thought that comes to mind.I have seen and see the abject poverty and to say that apathy for those that are worse off is non existent is pure fallacy,but the overall feeling I get is that your my neighbor and together we'll fight!I've read as much in this site,I've seen the praise for Dominican ingenuity,above all I've seen the kudos for a population that manages to do much with little.Now I do know that because of poverty that the I'm going to get mine first idealism sprouts I get it.I would just hope that if the SHTF that we can think of our neighbors and one spoon of rice can become 2.
it' scary to think that Expats or anyone on this site in particular becomes the guy with 17000 bottles of manita limpia in a storage unit or 50 lbs of rice while neighbor has none.It's comforting for me to know that my family's neighbors are good kind hearted Dominicans whom have treated me as one of their own,having so little but willing to share.My intent is not to come off as holier than thou and I know full well that I'm writing from the comfort of my own home but we should remember that this is happening in well to do neighborhoods as well as slums and mob behavior is showing it's ugly head more so in those who seem to think they're privileged or should be.It wasn't nor isn't your poor neighbor down the street who told you this was a hoax on this board.

Maybe they can divert all the funds they spend on government propaganda to some good educational videos. DM's speech would have benefited if he'd been accompanied by a senior doctor/public health specialist to explain the risks in everyday language and bust some of the myths going round.

I have seen the exact same thing cavok saw multiple times. My card has been eaten by an ATM. They are not reliable down here.
For the most part, I'm a homebody so I have no difficulty hanging around the house. I have my routines and they seem to fill the day nicely with a comfortable balance of necessary chores and leisure activities. Left the house once today. While writing a post yesterday, I realized I hadn't filled the vehicle with gas and my spare gas can was empty. So that was my only jaunt into the real world. With that done, hopefully tomorrow unfolds so that I do not have to go anywhere at all.
Speaking of tomorrow, I believe that is the first day of the "everything is closed except essential services". No issues that I could see when I was out today, perhaps a bit quieter than normal but I didn't go into town. Nobody else at the gas station when I was there.
Tomorrow the reality of the situation should slowly begin to sink in. We'll have to see if people stay home or if they all head out to see what everyone else is doing. Too bad Meems moved. I mean good for her but that old location is a primo vantage point to observe the busloads of people being dragged off the streets for not keeping their pants pulled up and not staying home.

More important to you and me for sure. However, I have a suspicion that those who wish to still be in a position to control the playing field when all this shakes out may not feel quite so altruistic.
Saw somewhere that Martinis Grill Cabarete serves sancocho instant pot or something like that today, main selling point is that this is last evening you can sit there and eat for a long time. Called to check when to go, at six o clock thay say.

She managed to squeeze us in at an extra table at the pool. Did not know there was so many tourists left at Cab East. A lonely place in the night. This ought to be fun, I digged up my Martini Grill T shirt and I am ready to look at the great party.

Have you got any idea of how the Dominican economy works? Nobody could say that hotels are non-essential.
My point is simple. There is no point of locking everything down for just 15 days. You need probably 12 weeks for this virus. And if you lock down all businesses and shut all the hotels for 12 weeks in DR then you are going to have a lot of starving people who will die because they have no food. Already people are being fired from hotels in Bavaro in large numbers, these people will have no money to live on, no chance of getting another job anytime soon. And we really are talking 10's of thousands of lives affected. By contrast nobody knows whether the virus can survive the DR climate, and there seems to be an absence of any statistical modelling on what its impact will be.

She was told they will be open weekends

I was worried the vet would close so squeezed down for 2 bags of dog food
I asked about him closing --
Oh No !!
Estoy una farmacia
as he turned and pointed to all his drug shelves
The fact that it was all for animals didn't fit w/ my logic
But I almost guarantee he will win that argument here in RD
