For now, the solution is more space, more beds, more drugs and more equipment and more staff. Coupled with a massive public health tracking and tracing program to isolate the spreaders. If you can't nab the ones walking around infecting others then you may have to lock everyone down by default. I'd prefer the former option - find the sick and get them off the streets. Stopping nonessential travel from the USA is probably a step in the right direction. Yet encouraging flights to come regularly and take people off the island can only help.
You would never imagine that based on his constant posting on such matters. A treasure trove of information (all negative BTW) along with constant reminders that one should not DARE to travel to the DR.
It's way too late to do contact tracing in the Dominican Republic. That's something they should have done when they were in quarantine months ago. But they literally did nothing but drop the ball and here we are

There are several US Tourists who have summer homes in My region of NS who are staying there......Isolation 14 days...and being closely monitored.
My friends left DR on their yacht and returned to Canada..they were given the 14 day isolation , on board their Yacht... police even checked on them several times.

are you sure US citizens can enter ?
I know property owners can enter but don't think a US citizen alone is authorized.

What do you expect from the people who are spending their last days on the job? I was in that situation myself: zero motivation, zero initiative, zero planning. Priority no. 1: the next job.

Both the DR and the US seem unable to take the measures that other countries have adopted to stop the virus.
Americans are obsessed with their freedoms and resist being told what to do even when it makes scientific sense.
I predict the virus will be with us in force until and if there is a vaccine.
Why the DR population cannot cooperate for the good of all is most likely due partly to a lack of education.
My kids graduated from high school in Sosua. I asked them if they took biology in high school and all said yes.
Next I asked them if they remember being taught about virus and bacteria. Not a one said yes.
In fact they still believe you become sick from being caught out in the rain.
China has a population of 1.3 billion yet it was able to stop this disease.
Being a totalitarian country it is easier to enforce isolate at home orders that are accompanied with the knowledge that if you go out in the street you are arrested or shot.
Meanwhile Florida reported 15,000 new cases in one day and the governor is trying to force the schools to open.
The land of the free is quickly becoming the land of the sick and soon dead.
Sadly the DR is following suit and is further handicapped by a substandard medical system for the majority of Dominicans.
I would not trust the reporting of the cases here and without testing no one knows how many people actually have the illness until they seek medical care.
Lots must be dying at home.

I hear that Abinder and Medina are meeting tomorrow to discuss some sort of response to the rise in CV19 cases. I hope no new curfew.
They have to send clear message out to people most people are confused about what rules are or not...
