Many people do not, until they need it, and by then, it may be too late.
How many persons do not even know their blood type?
How many persons do not know where their local or regional blood banks are, or the process one goes through to obtain the blood?
Vacationers hardly, residents or those long term stayers should.
The price for the pints of B+ was 4850 DOP per. The price was never a question. The availability or lack thereof, as well as time constraints were the issues in play.
Thank you for this! I am one of those guilty.

Unfortunately, I do not possess sufficient free time to do so. This is where personal responsibility comes into play.
A quick Google search of "banco de sangre + the province within RD needed, will provide you with results, that you will need to investigate further and verify. Some locations found within a quick search are no longer operating, while others may have differing hours of operation.
I can tell you that the blood bank my employees most often rely upon within LR is Banco de Sangre Esparta:
Thank you.
On the lighter note, the webmaster who did the web page cloned too quickly and left the description as "Quesos, dulces , galletas Costumbre de calidad en la romana. "

I welcome this information, because several posters have said DR does not have blood banks, and that the patient has to find donors themselves.

In many cases that is the quickest and cheapest way (friends & family). 4k a pint is a large hit for many.

Hours into the first night of the new curfew and the fiesta down he street is in full swing. Nothing has changed. I can't see them but I can hear lots of different voices male and female all screaming over the music. Sounds like spring break in Florida in Spanish this time. Disappointing and more than just a little annoying to have to listen to for hours on end. It's too early to go to bed for some peace and quiet.

The RD has always had blood banks. The main difference here is that they are run as a business module, as opposed to a storage facility.
In other parts of the globe, the blood bank refers to the storage area within a particular clinic or hospital, or in close proximity to such.

Here in RD, it is actually another physical location. There are both lower and higher end, although they are supposed to meet the same standards for operation. Some locations seem to be run out of a residence style structure, others a storefront, and the more modern ones as laboratory facilities. Some maintain normal standard business hours, others are open 24/7.

To keep this in touch with the thread line, and respond to the second posting by bienamor, that could have been, and was probably the case for many pre-covid19. Covid19 has changed everything in a short period of time (agree with or not), including the regulations on donating and administering blood. This is not just for the blood banks, but the clinics and hospitals as well. My employee's family member had several members who would have been able to donate to the patient, as they are B+ as well. They were informed by the private clinic that because of the new strict measures and processes in place, even their compatible blood for a family member would take up to two weeks to be tested, cleared and approved. Not as easy as taking blood from one, and passing it on to another.
Obviously a person needing emergency surgery can not wait two weeks, so yes, the blood bank is necessary......regardless of cost.

Keep this in mind when a person tells you that they are in need of money to purchase blood, for a family member who needs surgery.
While some times it may be a scam, more often than not, it is the truth. You are the ultimate judge of the type of persons you maintain in your life, and whether you can trust them or not.

Well thank you, but it's just relating a first hand account of something that can assist members of the community going forward. For them, and their families.
Very important is to be tested and identify your blood type, if you already do not know, and inform your loved ones or persons you are close to. Maintain a note of it in your home, wallet or purse. In today's age, perhaps list it within your smartphone contacts (for family/friends just as you would a birthday or email address).
Again, persons on vacation will not think of such, but for the fulltime residents, and those that are here for months at a time, it is something to seriously consider. Nobody ever plans on having an accident or suffering an injury or greater pressing issue, and when it is you on the gurney or bed in need, and every single minute counts.......you will want to know that blood type.

I did not think of the blood supply. This is very enlightening Cao.

Well now, hopefully you and others that need to, add it to the top of your "Things To Do" weekly list, if you are the sort.
Sounds funny, but it is a short, quick process. May take a while longer due to Covid, but we will all have some free time over the next 45 days during the new SOE. Why not do something productive, and potentially life saving for yourself and/or others?
Call your local clinica or blood bank to ask before visiting.
