I can't imagine that if you were sick enough to want to go to HOMS that you wouldn't pry open your wallet and take out 4-5000 pesos for a private taxi to take you door to door,or 12,000 to Cedimat. I don't know about you but my life is worth WAY more than that.

I don't know a taxi driver who will let a clearly very sick person flop aground inside their enclosed vehicle for somewhere between 2 and five hours. do you? And if you do get there what are the chances of being turned away because there is no space? A long way to go for no benefit, which is why it is fundamentally important to know where to go for treatment before you set out. AE's relative found out the hard way that just turning up at a hospital is a hit and miss proposition.

4,635 Tested.

A positive test rate of 39%.

Positive rate from yesterday's 3,961 tests was 36%.

A three percent increase in positive case percentage and a 25% increase in absolute cases from yesterday's numbers.
Scary. What is the test method. Are people just presenting common cold antibodies and that's a Covid+ test

The active total is growing rapidly along with the high positivity which together are bad omens.

Unfortunately the East Coast/LR is recording large numbers consistently now and the active numbers are growing.

Interesting to see the large total for Valverde (Mao is the main town) today - last weekend the city council closed all parks and public plces stating there was a big problem there and 7 days later we see it

People are just relying upon their own biased news sources for information. It still has everything to do with politics, and not much in the form of medical answers.
Persons can not even bring themselves to agree on what sort of facial protection to utilize. It's actually quite ridiculous.

If a person is not able to discern between reality, facts, fiction and lies in all aspects of their life, that person will encounter many difficulties in their life.

The picture developing in the DR is now far from a hoax and not even really exaggerated anymore. Maybe downplayed if anything and the public health care system was even in normal times under pressure. Must be a total disaster. I mean HOMS and Cedimat is the top private ones. I can’t believe a government in the middle of this can announce the building of a new airport. Even before the pandemic to me it sounded like it wasn’t needed.

True indeed. Sage advice that would be helpful for all the Doomsday Davies and Crazy Charlotte's, before they worry themselves into the box, over a virus that will eventually infect everybody. There is no hiding from a virus.

Seems Hydroxychloroquine is an effective early drug for Covid. And it is now available in DR farmacias without prescription.

The TRD crowd is so prejudiced they assisted in the deaths of those denied this drug.

Knock yourself out, but this is a dangerous drug. I took it once when I was having autoimmune issues. My skin flared red, turned shiny, and then started peeling. It's a well known side-effect that happens about 1-2% of the time. However, my health took a deep dive after that so I think the effects were more than skin deep.

It does suppress your immune system (while being very toxic), so how somebody came up the idea it was prophylactic is beyond me. In theory, it might help a patient that had a severe reaction to Covid-19 (cytokine storm), so I see how they might have tried it. However, I'd trust the scientists on this. There are much better medications being used now.

I was able to tolerate chloroquine, but it was very toxic and will damage nerves (retinas) and other things. I'm very happy that I no longer need it.

Absolutely it can have those effects on you. I took it twice while serving in Africa with the Canadian Air force. I has vivid nightmares but no other side effects. Some of my fellow airmen had no side effects. but several were made too sick to continue using it. We were in a very high Malaria area so it was necessary. It has saved millions of people from dying from malaria, and is actually considered a relatively safe drug/medicine.

The FDA and Trump are USA and political in nature. So this is the new off topic here?

Focus,
The discussion was initiated by Chico's statement "Seems Hydroxychloroquine is an effective early drug for Covid."

I refuted this claim with for example, clinical medical studies published by the New England journal of medicine.
As you may know CV19 is effecting and killing Dominicans.
As far as I recall the DR is not a world leader in immunological research, or the production of vaccines.
To refute false claims, one may have to cast a little outside of Dominican waters for knowledge.

Sorry the post had nothing to do with DR, regardless of your tie-in attempt. Let's focus on DR, not islands in the Caribbean, not studies. There is, from what I see no forum to discuss non DR related topic. If there is I would like to understand where and the requirements to post there.

No more arguing about various studies or this thread will turn into a disaster. Posts must have some significance to DR.

Unless it’s something NEW.... new treatment, new drug, etc, stick to what’s going on in DR

I don’t want to see Trump mentioned.
