They started the Covid-19 testing at STI today. My flight landed at 2AM and everyone that did not have their Covid test result either on their phone or a paper copy had to be tested at the airport. Test is not bad. They poke your finger, take a blood sample and the result comes out in five minutes. Most people who took it were negative. I did see 2 people with a positive test result. They were escorted somewhere. I don't know what happened to them. I did not see them again for the 35 minutes i spent in the immigration line. But over all, the entire process was not bad. From when we landed to taking the test to getting outside the airport, took 1 hour and 10 minutes.

I guess every passenger from the US is really going to back up the time to exit they airport if everyone needs proof or they rapid test.
I know of now machine that provides a negative result in 5 minutes. A positive (or false positive) result perhaps - and away you go to the Covid19 Hotel.

I thought the blood test only told you if you have antibodies. If you have those you may not be sick now but were in the past. What are they going to do with someone who has antibodies but may not actually be sick at the time?

I don’t think total free medical really exists anywhere. I will stop mentioning it.

Antibody tests have a high false negative because many people with covid19 don't develop antibodies. It's an area of active research to figure out how such people are able to clear the virus and recover.

That’s the impression americans have from our countries. Nevertheless in Holland and in Belgium you pay monthly for your insurance. Denmark I don’t know.
Yes I have heard about the Dutch system. Sounds like a good system. I don’t believe in free health care for the DR. It bankrupted another country similar to DR. I was actually mentioning the visitors or foreigners as we are all visitors no matter residency or not should have insurance but we will see what happens during the rest of this pandemic. Someone mentioned Canadians can’t get coverage for Covid. Can Europeans get coverage for Covid here ? I am not at all an expert on this.

Well I tell you the public hospital in Rio SAN JUAN is a matadero. In 2017, a guy got an accident on a 115 had an accident in front of our house and my cousin and I, we took him in a camioneta to RSJ. What I saw there is a bloody shame. We contacted his family and took him to POP.

I thought the staff was very dedicated, friendly, and helpful. They have a hard job as the waiting room is a sea of human misery. Zero fun, and I can see where you'd come away with that impression.

I thought you were going to stop calling it free. Nothing is free.

The only public healthcare system that I've seen work for poor countries is where the government says we can afford X. Then it's a matter of how to spend X as efficiently as possible to provide the most valuable services. If they aren't happy with the service, then they can either improve the system (fight corruption, fund this instead of that, etc) or provide more funds.

Declaring that you will provide a level of care without regard to cost is the certain road to bankruptcy.

I actually never talked about free health care. I meant I would not mention insurance and health care again but then I did lol . Yes some limited health care for the broader population. The richer countries don’t provide free health care either. There are many things you have to pay for. Free health care is a myth.

Um , what happened to that woman who was ejected from the Car and found wandering on the street, dazed and lost
.. the missing couple , he ended up in the ocean , found dead later .They raced to the Airport in Santo Domingo, on their last night from an AI... do you recall that story , ?
She was in a Dominican hospital for 9 days ? and no one even knew who she was, a Jane Does , until she died ..
Those are the consequences .
the DR aint Kansas . you take your risks , you pay the price for your decisions , its no one else' s responsibility .

First of all...
I do remember that sad story.
I don't follow the comparison between the two discussions unless of course you were attempting to compare her with the poor fool, in my example, who arrived in the D.R. with no accident insurance.
Do we even know if she had insurance?
I don't think that was ever discussed.
Ergo:
No relevance
In any case...
Your last line kind of supports my position that argues against the narcissistic and simplistic Ayn Rand line...

"No right of mine constitutes an obligation on any man living."

When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me.

I don't think you are in DR, know much about DR or care much about DR. I don't see any posts which speak to your experience on the ground.

PARIS (ANP) - The European Union is close to a deal on up to 300 million doses of a corona vaccine being developed by pharmacists Sanofi and GlaxoSmithKline (GSK). The exploratory talks were completed, Brussels announced without giving financial details. It was also previously announced that the two pharmacies will receive $ 2.1 billion from the United States for the development of the vaccine.

P AFP
The US money is intended for further research into the drug and to scale up the production capacity for the vaccine. In exchange for funding, Americans will secure at least 100 million doses of the vaccine if this drug proves to be effective against the virus. In addition, the US will be given an option for an additional 500 million doses from French and British pharmaceuticals.

First half 2021
Sanofi and GSK expect to apply for approval for their vaccine in the U.S. in the first half of 2021 at the earliest. To do this, various clinical tests, which will start in September and at the end of this year, will first have to show whether the vaccine is effective in combating the lung virus.

In pursuit of eternal fame with corona vaccine
Numerous pharmaceutical companies are currently working on possible vaccines against the new coronavirus. Sanofi aims to develop a vaccine using existing technology to fight the flu virus with antibodies. GSK supplies an excipient that is intended to enhance the immune response after administration of the vaccine. Ultimately, the two companies aim to produce 1 billion vaccines annually.

The British government previously signed an agreement with the two pharmaceutical companies to supply 60 million doses of the vaccine. Sanofi and GSK are also negotiating the drug with France and Italy.

Does anyone know whether the DR is also participating in this big business?
