Friend of mine has been very recently to the Puerto Plata office, paid the VIP price 2650 + 300 for the photo, I believe, and the passport was ready the next day. Look for Cita de Pasaporte, there were lots of appointments available before May when I looked.

Can someone please tell me true cost of getting a Dominican passport as website says 1650 peso but I am being quoted 2000US $

Is that specifically for just the passport or does it include legal applications/naturalization paper work?

What is meant by '
  • Receipt of Tax Payment from Banco de Reservas (in-person mode) or online payment with credit or debit card (web mode).'
What tax? This is additional payment?

Pretty sure that is the payment for the passport not an actual tax.

You are being quoted exactly where? There are no quotes, the prices are on the website linked above, period:

And as said above, with tax they are referring to the fee, which you in this case pay in Banreservas.

My wife just renewed recently, we paid exactly what the website tells for a 10 year passport VIP and the photo, end of story. Yes, there were appointments but the waiting time was like 1-2 days, period.

The OP did not specify a lot when posting this "information" they had received...

This is the actual passport fee. I fail to understand who is quoting you what as you also did not detail that, as you simply go to Banreservas, say that you want to pay for a new passport to the clerk and they charge you accordingly. There is no negotiation or quoting involved. You pay a fee to the bank, period. With the receipt you go to your appointment.

The regular passport fee, including the photo, is $1,950. Now you have to pay it online at the moment of making the appointment. You can either pay with a credit card or use the number of the receipt from Banreservas. Fees goes up if you want another passport category like the ¨VIP¨ one, or if you do your application online so you can just show up to pick up the passport. Also there´s the ten year passport instead of the 6 year one.
Things might work differently in some passport offices, like the VIP is for you to get your passport on the same day, but they might make you come back.
