I have been invited to a wedding in the DR and was told that the dress would be beach casual. I would assume that this does not mean swimwear or shorts but I am not exactly sure what beach casual is. Would someone please give me examples for both women and men.

Why don't you ask the person who invited you exactly what "beach casual" means to them.

How about micro fiber

Thanks for the suggestions. I have linen and love the look and feel but the problem is that it does not travel well, and I hate to iron. I do have some lightweight micro fiber pants in cream, white, and a pair in a light lime color. Couple this with a print Tommy Bahama shirt (light blue with yellow orchids) and my Prada light blue loafers, together with a Versace lightweight cable knit (navy) sweater over the shoulders.

SPEEDO!! Are you out of your mind????
Actually the term was "Island Casual" which to me means, slacks. casual shirt, and some sort of footwear for men and as little as possible for women!

P.S. Chuck, Please no speedo this time!!

OK, now, you've got all the names and that is a good start. Can you now please lose the lime color pants and the light blue and yellow orchids shirt - a slight problem with colors.....

If you have the light blue loafers, lose those too -

What about rope sandals with the cream pants and something else over the shoulders.... not the yellow orchids? :cross-eye

(Well, on reflection, lose the lime pants altogether...) Also, lose the cable knit navy sweater - this is the caribbean fer'god'sakes!

On further reflection - maybe the speedo will do!

Chris - totally fashion unconscious....

That is way too many designers for just one outfit LOL. Keeping it simple is the way to go.... a nice beige buttoned linen shirt and cream linen pants with brown sandals. Take the clothes to the cleaners they will wrinkle less than if you iron it yourself.

I like this suggestion best of all. But I really do like my light lime pants.

Hey Charlie, You could wear them but on another occasion ;) , but just a bit of fashion advise lime green is a loud color so you have to wear a shirt that is either white or black please, please, please do not try to wear them with your baby blue prada shoes.

For the ladies........

I have a couple of "island casual" linen suits that are semi-constructed jackets with tailored shorts worn with a plain white tank top and dressy sandles. Or if in the evening I have a tailored white linen slacks with a constructed white linen double breasted jacket worn with a knitted powder blue silk tank top. If needed I substitute a white linen fully lined skirt (knee length) for "restaurant/reception hall affairs or even with a full length pastel print skirt depending on the location.
Cream or light pastel colours would work also........

If an afternoon function truly on the beach a linen semi fitted sundress with co-ordinating sun hat and sandles would also be acceptable.

lime green is a loud color so you have to wear a shirt that is either white or black
Surely you jest? A BLACK shirt with lime pants? I am so not down with that.

LOL its a light lime green. what do you suggest a pink or a light blue shirt??? no way the only way to make it work is to tone it down with white or black.
