This is all very well but....... my wife has been here for 2 weeks, I arrived 3 days ago, she has been down with severe fever, sore muscles and articulations, diaharee...... the symptomes appeared 4 0r 5 days ago and I just put it down to la grippe ( which I had in europe last week).
Where does one go to know if u had dengue??? I hardly want her to do a blood test in local hospital, cos chances are u come back out with black plague or something...
Anybody know of a place in santiago or pop region??

If you have insurance then go to HOMS on autopista Duarte. They will also trat you if you do not have insurance but you will have to pay cash.

Don't be so paranoid lol - check in any private hospital and have them perform all the necessary tests. Like someone already pointed out, the earlier it's detected the easier it can be treated. Good luck

get her to the hospital ASAP. do not worry about plague, currently the only source of plague in the country is me, been sick with cold and rash for a week now. with dengue time is of essence, like i mentioned in previous post (link). pump your wife with all the gatorade she can drink and take her to the emergency unit. do not bother to travel to santiago if you are in POP. go to clinica bournigal, clinica brugal or clinica gregorio hernandez. they all have emergency departments. with good luck wife can get better with some meds to lower down the fever and ease the pain plus few bags of IV fluids. if you have no insurance you will look at 100-200 dollars.

Very strong chance she has it - dengue.

Nothing to do but diagnose it, take all the fluids you can and wait....

If she wants to eat , she can - but keep the fluid intake VERY high.

Clinica and IV is the best...

JMy wife just got back from the hospital as my son had a high fever today.
The doctor at the hospital said that someone from El Mamey just died with dengue.
She had to go and get various analysis done. It cost $1300 plus buy medicine for 300 pesos= Total $1600.
Apparently another child had it too and they left it too long so had to go to the children's hospital in Santiago Cost $50,000 pesos.
So it seems like there are some real public health issues here especially when many many people can't afford the early a testing and treatments

Sorry all prices were in pesos not dollars. So a test is about $30 dollars and should be done earlier than later

Ok, so have been to laboratorio for test, they say plaquette is low. But hard to understand results...
Anyone had any test done and results explained?? PlT is 95 when it should be between 150 and 400.
WBC is 1,9 when it should be between 5 and 10.
Any ideas???

My wife wants to wait to tomorrow to go to "hon" in santiago. Good idea or take her to any hospital asap??

low platelet count is a dengue symptom (SP = placeta?)

Honestly, there is very little to do.
They can or may take her in and give her intravenus fluids or she can keep drinking fortified water.

Pain relief is just Tylenol type medication unless she needs an injection at times.
I had one or two injections.

My hospital stay was b/c I was alone - wife away.

They'll get back to you w/ the results and will have a plan of action.
Results take a few hours sometimes

Good luck -- about 9=10=11 days will be the duration and then a recovery period.

No drinking - liver is already getting a workout and if they give her acetaphetamine .. even moreso

Ok, if I understand correctly, no need to head for hospital. Lots of fluids ( ie juices and stuff), paracetamol for pain, and just wait it out???

hydration is very important. not enough to drink just water or juices. i suggest gatorade or even better eletrolyte or pedialyte. or even better (cheaper) go to the pharmacy and get suero an polvo: this is basically a hydrating powder to be dissolved on one liter of water (clean, bottled or boiled). she will have to take 2-3 liters a day if not more. i understand she is energetic and all that but it's better to be on a safe side. if she feels worse tomorrow take her to the hospital. really, no need to go over the board and travel far, nearest private clinic is fine. she may be kept overnight, pumped with some fluids.

Just learned of a women and both kids are in the hospital with it. She lives outside of lower Sosua and works in Sosua.

Is this letting up? Staying the same? Or cases going down?
