Thanks everyone. I've passed all your information on to my friend. He's mulling it over. He's a certified diver and I'm guessing he will get the work done in the DR and stay with me in Playa Dorada while it's being done and do some diving.  It's quiet there during the summer and he can stay in a villa suite under my membership while he is recuperating.

Please be sure your friend understands it will take a couple of visits spread over a six month to one year period to complete the implants.

That's a bit of scaremongering ,

There are a few appointments to start, then a long healing period the length of which is dictated by the health of the jawbone itself.
Then you lie fallow during the healing process.

As it finishes and the fitting/installation part starts, another flurry of appointments.

Very doable when you can come and visit a friend..... while saving a bundle.

I have just finished holding my friend's hand through all of this........
First for his upper teeth and now starting his lower.

First hand knowledge I offer here

Sorry to disagree but yours is second hand. You did not go through the procedure yourself.

I had my whole mouth done about 2 years ago. Implants and appliances top and bottom. If the procedure and healing go off normally than the DR is a good option. If you run into problems and you are no longer in the country than it is very problematic. Yes you can save money. That should not be the deciding factor but for some it sounds like that is the biggest factor. It is very expensive and paying for it is a priority but I would not be comfortable going to a third world country to get this done. My first priority was finding someone who could do everything under one roof. I live in Delaware and travelled to Anappolis, Md. to get this done (about 1.5 hours away). I had talked to 3 other Dentists before I made this decision. If you need minor work done that is one thing but in my case I had to first have 20 some odd teeth removed and then the implants put in. I was in the chair for about 6-8 hours and don't remember most of it. I was so drugged up it was difficult to just get out of the chair after the days surgery. Also one other thing to consider is what type of materials are being used in the appliances. Some of the choices may be a cheaper version of what you can get in the states. I have porcelin and titanium which is the best quality. There are other choices which may not last more than 5-8 years. If you have friends in the DR that can accomodate you that may work. If you come down with no one to assist you than you could run into major problems trying to accomplish this. Buyer beware.

I suggest you read my thread, I had very extensive work done in the DR, an excellent experience.
High end materials, painless, latest techniques. e.g. German dentists visiting the clinic being shown how to do mini-implants.

Like anything, do the research and know the team who is looking after you.

LT,
Robert has answered the quality question... excellent.
RD is a Dental destination.... say no more.

I won't joust with you or parse paragraphs or words,
But in my world, first hand is what you saw, second hand is what you heard....

The actual patient is a different case....

As far as this procedure is concerned, the 'heavy lifting ' is done here.
Any complications in the healing process any be more medical than Dental.... infection, etc.
Normal problems are easily solved in a country of your choice.
Should the issue be specific to Dental.... it eats into the saving necessitating a trip to RD

Understand the savings here, not just big...HUGE.

I am sorry to have upset you....
Glasses are half full or half empty.....
We all see life differently.

Personally, knowing this clinic....no fears.

Robert is right... study up....
You would have saved a lot of money in STI

I actually had my top teeth done in hungary 12 years ago. no implants, rather, they used a few teeth as posts to put on the bridge which was a full bridge. Europe might be a better deal depending on the dollar price. This is the place i went to. Best thing i EVER did for myself in my life, after years of terrible tooth problems and pain. www.kreativdentalclinic.eu/en/

Roberts experience sounded really good. I don't recall if he lives in the DR full time. I don't take an issue with those to go this route. I'm saying in my case I needed extensive work and would not do it in the DR.

Not to disagree....
but Medical Tourism is a stated objective of RD .

Specifically, Dra Lizther at Cibao Dental wants to promote their services internationally.

RD's medical standing is very good.

From today's Tourism Post ---

DR wants to lead in medical tourism in the Caribbean
The Dominican Republic is working hard to be recognized as the leading medical tourism destination in the Caribbean. The 2016 Medical Tourism Index Report shows the DR in 15th place in the global ranking. The DR is ranked 15th in environment, 5th in medical tourism industry and 22th in quality of facilities and services. The average Medical Tourism Index score for the Americas is 64.48 and the DR’s MTI is 67.58.

In an interview with reporters from Hoy, spokesmen for a leading medical center pointed out that findings of the Medical Tourism Association Medical Tourism Index Report are that people are already spending around US$100 billion a year on medical tourism, and that the sector would grow by around 25% per year over or the decade. The DR seeks to increase its market share of this market with improvements in its medical industry and better marketing.

During the interview, Centro de Diagnóstico, Medicina Avanzada, Laboratorio y Telemedicina (Cedimat), executives Jesus Saavedra, Luis Betances and Michel Saint-Amand highlighted the importance of reaching strategic alliances to promote the country as a medical tourism destination.

They explained medical tourism not only impacts the medical centers but also provides benefits to hotels, transport companies, and the leisure travel sector, in general. They estimated that a foreigner who visits for medical services spends eight times more than a leisure tourist and the stay is usually longer.

The main attraction for medical tourism in the country is the high quality of service and the considerably lower cost of many medical procedures here than abroad.

They explained the country provides the latest medical technologies, state of the art installations, a high level of trained physicians and staff, many of whom are bilingual.

Cibao Dental Spa is great. I have had work done there, but they are the highest priceed place in the DR. YOu can find specialists in smaller offices who do excellent work and for far less.

Contact Dra. Ismelda Santos and she can help you. She does not do implants, but she does everythign else and can set you up with a specialist who does implants. Her prices are very reasonable and her work is outstanding.

My friend is just finishing....16-18 teeth

He says about one third the cost here
Cibao Dental Spa.

In Canada, that's about 10 implants huh?

Call or write me

Santiago seems to be loaded with dentist
