Do not buy water in plastic if exposed to the sun

After 32 years, knowing the 1st 10 I used to drink tab water & "tinaja" water, then I switched to "botellones" around 2002. I never drank anything else, and I'm pretty sure most those "botellones" were exposed to sunlight. I never had an issue (or maybe I did and still do, I don't know...)

I run all my bottled water through a Berkey filter when I am in the DR. There was a study done years ago that said that 30% of the big blue bottles were found to be contaminated,it was posted on DR1 but I can't find it.

Yeah, an Environmental Science textbook used in UTESA says the same.

Hermanos Viilar is my choice. Most Colmados don't carry it, so I'm still amazed when the delivery guys pour the water from the botellone they bought into my empty Hern. Villar one

What about the delivery trucks? They are loaded with bottelones all in the bright sun.
Usually for one day or less, Jan. The issue is when they are stored in racks outside of colmados for days or even weeks at a time.

Remember the Hurricane which hit Puerto Rico badly... .The Incompetent Leaders there left all the Donated water on the TARMAC at the Airport .
It had to all be thrown away ... Forget how long it was in the sun, but like a week or so .
Real genius.

in my opinion if you can afford it a good home water treatment system is well worth the money. we got one and never regretted it, and dont have to get the big bottles anymore.
