I am only aware of two children’s books that were written by Dominicans about the country. One is “Si Quisqueya Fuera Un Color” by Sili Recio. It’s a beautiful book that teaches about the diversity of complexions found in the DR. I had posted about it earlier on DR1.
The other is “Island Born by Junot Díaz. It tells the story of a little girl with Dominican roots living in NYC. It discusses the beauty of the country.
There is also “Tía Lola“ by Julia Alvarez, as well as a few others that she wrote for older children.
My sister in law (a primary private school teacher) as well as a Domincana friend living here in Canada recommended Nacho El Hondureño, but it’s more of a primer for reading than a story. And it’s not Dominican.
If anyone knows of other specifically Dominican children’s books, please post here. I think there is a shortage and would like to learn about more. Mods I hope I’m posting the the right place? Thanks in advance.
