Damn! I just read the OP and thought I had won it, then realized I didn't buy a ticket: this damn Republican-engineered sequester is killing me! I'm better off dead!

Your Savior wrote the sequester. Talk to him.

It's not time to just cut spending, it's time to slash and burn. That town's out of control.

The moral of the story is don't take the lump sum or bury it in a trust fund.
I would take lump sum. It's better to have it all in this economy and bury in trust fund or invest in bonds or consult asset managing corporation like Vanguard and ask them how much per month I can spend.

He owns a bodega, so he must(or better) have some paperwork to back up his status.
Correction his son owns the deli so he might not have the legal status until yesterday. I am pretty sure US government is expressing the green card right now, if he doesn't have one.

Actually, in the US it varies by state. In NJ, winners can not remain anonimous.

His first mistake was immediately acknowledging publicly that he was the winner. He should have validated and signed the ticket, then sought financial and legal advice, so as to figure out what to do with the money for maximum benefit and reduced tax liability, and to limit his obligations to the lottery for public exposure to a minimum.

I hope that things turn out well, but it doesn't look promising
.

Agreed.

Even if he blows his money, how do you end up broke with 200 millions ? I saw those lottery winners sad stories who end up with nothing, but the winning were never really THAT high. It is really easy to blow 1 or 2 Millions, but 200 ?

I am not really worried about Pedro...In fact lo quiero mucho !!!!! LOL :bunny:

Again, it's $151 million if he takes the lump sum. Remember there's tax on his purchases. If there's one thing that we can ALL relate to it's just how easy it is to blow money. It's probably the easiest thing in the world. And that's without help from others. This guy will have a lot of help. He announced it to the world. I WANT TO HELP A LOT OF PEOPLE. WHATEVER THEY NEED.

Koreano, there was a tv show recently about professional athletes who had made a fortune during their playing days. the show revealed that close to 70 percent were flat broke, and oftentimes bankrupt, 4 years after they retired. yes, it's not the money; it's how you spend it. sadly, African American athletes were the worst culprits, throwing away thousands of dollars at a pop on topless dancers in go-go clubs.
Agree.
The problem is many of those young stars athletes that are from ghetto don't know what to do with the sudden money and they always think money will continue to roll in. I know noone will listen but the league should strongly teach these young kids on knowledge of how to spend or invest the money or tell them to just to put most of it some where and live off of interests. Signing $200 millions in contract and it's given everyone will try to steal as much as they can but if one can't put away at least 10% somewhere is most stupidest things I read about star athletes and lucky winners.

Take the annuity that way if you mess up one year you have 24 more chances to get it right.
Funny it always don't work this way. There are hundred of institution that are looking for broke annuity lottery winners that are willing to loan you large sums for crazy fees and interests. And as time pass that 15 years of your winning belongs to someone else. And you own IRS and have bankrupted status on your credit record forever.

You got to thing more through if you have won that kind of money.
Singing on the spot isn't always a good idea.

I would roughly do it this way....
1. Take a photo and video of yourself holding the lottery ticket and put away that lotto and the camera in a different places like in a different bank deposit boxes.
1A. Take a deep breath and think about this you have like 6 months or 1 year to collect this.
1B. Try to act normal and do not talk to anyone about the winning.
2. Think about who you want to share this new found wealth.
3. Go to several large tax/law firms and wealth manager and consult on remaining somewhat hidden, implication on sharing money and best possible option to put away some of the winning.
4. Go the the bank with your trust ones and or lawyers after everything seem sorted out.
5. Go collect wearing clown makeup with big sunglasses on.
6. Go on a long vacation and think about in which foundation should I create to help out those in need.

It's kinda fun...
Too bad I didn't win....
If I was in state last week and I would've won instead of that guy... :(

Sure! You have found the right person. Saying no is my specialty. I will answer all you call and deal with them.
But.
Could you at least wait couple a weeks or months to win? That $20 million after lump sum fee and the government fees, doesn't look too attractive... :)

I think he will the richest man in DR with a 151 million cash, most rich people have so much money tied up in investments, but this is all CASH.
I think you'd be surprised of how many rich families in DR have that kind of money relatively current...

There's now some politicians that make that list. (richest in DR) All would be PLD members, with the exception of Amable and MVM.

But it is what it is...
So called families and friends think it's free money and they deserve most of it. You are going to be in trouble with families and friends wanting their "Cut". You say what's the big deal giving one million to your family but go ask what IRS will have to say about that. Even you win that ridiculous amounts of money, all the problems doesn't go away, it creates more problem. If you aren't careful with your winning. Your closest family and friend could become your worst enemy.

Tell your long lost brother, help out this koreano for giving him advice.
Don't forget that the family will be calculating their cut on the actual $300 million amount. None are taking into account that roughly half the money will go to the government in taxes and the lump sum payment is based on the current value of the dollar, not on an annuity of three or more decades. lol
