As the poster on FB suggested, you could call the DR consulate in your home country if you doubt what they said.

Myself, I have already read the document from Migracion on overstayers.

For me, it doesn't make any difference if it is true or not. However, there are a lot of posters here that I'm sure are interested and will be calling. We should know soon enough if it is true or not.

And when someone in the DR gubment decides to jam you up simply tell them, but I talked to my local consulate in the US!

Let me know how that works out[emoji849]

Unfortunately I am not going to be one of them. In Bermuda we do not have a DR consultant to call, despite having several dozen Dominicans living and working here. Which begs the question, what are my or anyone else's option when your home country doesn't have a DR consulate office?

I think in your case the only option is to call DGM here in the DR. If they don't know anything about this, you'll know it is just someone's idea on FB of a good practical joke.

Response from DR Embassy in Ottawa Canada

This was posted on FB Everything Sosua by someone who contacted the DR consulate in Ottawa:

This is the response I got from the Dominican Embassy in Ottawa: Thank you for your email.

We are sorry for the confusion. Our Ambassador is looking to protect the snowbirds, therefore, we are making a list of people that wants to go to our country for more than 60 days, so please send us both your complete names, passport numbers, dates of traveling, port of entry and a phone number.

We really appreciate your tourism and we want you to relax, have fun and enjoy your stay in our lovely country.

We hope to hear from you soon.

Best regards,

Sounds like just another "work around" is happening. See the above post on the email being received by those who do contact the DR embassy in Canada. Pass a new law and make a snowbird visa policy rather than taking names....

With apologies to Virginia O'Hanlon and Francis Pharcellus Church.....
"Dear Editor—
I am 58 years old. Some of my little friends say there is no Snowbird Visa offered by Dominican Immigration in order to legally stay longer than 30 days. Papa says, "If you see it on Facebook, it's so." Please tell me the truth, is there a Snowbird Visa offered by Dominican Immigration that allows me to stay longer than 30 days, so as that I am not looked upon as a common illegal immigrant like those Haitians and Venezuelans?"
Yes, this is what our world has become in 2018.

Thanks for passing on the info. I am passing it in to my snowbird friends for them to do with as they will!

We have long considered the Snowbirds to be 'safe' - as in won't be subject to pursuit.

AnnaC will be thrilled... and on the Embassy doorstep !!!

The gov't isn't looking to kick these people out....
but squatters & vagrants are another story

It "sounds" like they are trying to come up with something for the snowbirds - at least the consulate in Ottawa is anyway. Kind of hard to see how consulates in the US, Canada, and countries in Europe will all be putting together and updating a list of thousands of snowbirds that will then have to be sent to DGM here and collated and diseminated to all airports and then reviewed and checked by immigration officers as passengers arrive(?). Just doesn't sound workable. Time will tell.

Passport numbers, names, dates of travel and entry point....

Not that hard to identify if you arrive on the right date at the right place at the right time.

It seems that all RD agencies like to initiate this type of thing at the country of origin...

But , Yes, they seem to be trying to offer extended stays...

I don't get it. How is this "list" at an airport a better alternative to "a note from teacher" in someone's passport stating the holder of the passport may stay in the DR until the end of April 2019? Do the DGM roadblock people get a copy of this often changing multi-page list? Can they even read the foreign names? What's to prevent this list from being used as toilet paper on some desolate road somewhere?

Surely the procedural geniuses in this country can do better than a list! Maybe this is just a plot to turn any remaining trees in Haiti into paper and consume them at a ferocious pace.

Its probably more to document the need, so they can make a change or special visa IMHO

It's not...

The way I read it is:

"We're tired of answering the same questions again, and again, and again. Since you and your frens don't seem to understand that the rules here haven't changed (pay the overstay fee), we'll try to aleviate your stress by taking your name and number, so that you'll feel better, leave us alone, and enjoy your stay."

Thank you, please come again!

Paying the fee upon departure does nothing to alleviate the concerns of those who wish to stay for three months. Being rational beings they may be able to envision a scenario where their legal presence is questioned and they would be at a loss to demonstrate that their willingness to pay in two months time as a means of explaining why they are standing where they are on that particular day at that particular time.

Not likely i Know, but not completely impossible either.

Probably just a coincidence, but the French Canadians in particular here at my condo are freaking out over the rumors that they could possibly be denied entry for overstaying. Two of them have already put their units up for sale over the fear of not being able to get back to their units and are not planning on coming back again next year.

Have them place an advertisement within this forum, and a lucky member can buy in on the cheap. Sounds like a win-win situation for all involved.
