I Would "LOVE" To Be There,but.............

There is a "Re-Run" of a "Sponge Bob Squarepants"ephisode that I missed the first time it was show on the "Telly" 5 years ago being telecast at the same time as the USA defeat of the "Limies" soccer (Is It Just me,or would everyone rather watch paint dry ?) game.
Don't unpack your "Kits" England, you won't be long in "Sudafrica"!!!!!

My fellow American I do have to agree that watching the grass grow on the field where they play is as exciting to me as watching the game. By any name, I just can't watch it even when an American team is playing.

Fortunately many in the USA and billions of people around the world don't hold that opinion :)

In USA, around 16-18 million people play football (soccer) on a regular basis, which I think you will find is more than American football.

Come on England!!!

Current Vegas Odds

England -250
Draw +350
USA +650

Not a gambler, but I think that means if you bet $1000, you win $750 if you bet England wins, $1350 on a draw and $1650 on USA.

Anyone know how this works?

Dont think you can compare Futbal to NFL football in the USA. NFL is the dominant sport in the USA.
Personally i do enjoy a good futbal game as well, I learned to appreciate this sport while living in Buenos Aries and attending Boca Junior games.

I will be there tomorrow to watch the England game, and as a Canadian(commonwealth country) I am obliged to cheer on England.

The number of people playing a sport has no relationship to its boredom factor as a viewer. Take golf as another example. Go US, I guess.

My novia thinks it's exciting, especially when that Swede took off his pants to hit out of the water hazard!;)

Great sport to watch, RSA leading the opener 1-0 when they could be easily
behind 3-0 to Mex.
Have to love the fact it’s not the chances you have, but how you finish that counts. Sort of like golf, not how you drive, but how you arrive!

Second largest sports event on the planet

Hi
not sure why people have to be narrow minded and knock someone elses sport. I would never dream of saying anything bad about baseball , even though it is not for me. If you enjoy your sport, the ENJOY.
But let's remember the facts:
Fact; No.1 biggest event on the planet...Olympics (as measured by nations competing and TV audience).
Fact; No.2 biggest event on the planet..Football World Cup (as measured by nations competing and TV viewing audience).

And yes England may or may not get very far, we will see. We don't have a team full of world class players (perhaps only 1), but we do (should) play with passion, and that often counts a lot.

Anways fellow football fans..ENJOY every moment. Was great to see SA score the first goal this morn, and what a great goal.

See you in 5 stars tomorrow to see our first match.

England -250
Draw +350
USA +650

Not a gambler, but I think that means if you bet $1000, you win $750 if you bet England wins, $1350 on a draw and $1650 on USA.

Anyone know how this works?

As a Brit it confuses me too but I had a helping hand understand this this morning....

-250 England - Means to get $100 win, you need to bet $250 (2/5) (5/2 "ON")

+350 Draw - Bet $100, win $350 (7/2)

+ etc....

In your example $1000 bet on England would yield $400.

Draw $3500, USA win $6500 no?

Odds for World Cup

The guy from 538.com has come up with his own odds for the World Cup. He gives England about an 11% chance of winning, which is pretty good for the size of the field. He will be updating as the games progress. He predicted 49 out of 50 states correctly in the 2008 election so he is pretty good at what he does:

FiveThirtyEight: Politics Done Right: World Cup Simulated Odds

He gives Brazil about a 21% chance of winning...

luckily enough they also screwed the cricket-rules and came up with baseball...

ever watched a cricket-game????... forget xanax, sleeping-aids, brugal, etc...

5 minutes of cricket and you are fast asleep....:bunny::bunny:

an original description of futball....

20 idiots running after a ball, and when they get it finally, they kick it away again...lol

nevertheless a great sport to watch, except for the Germans with all their boring tactics... ouch.... there go my popularity points again.... lol
