Janni you have some nice picks-

I think Frank Reyes' new album is not as good as his others but then again he has out done himself so many times that maybe it's hard to rise above the standard he set for himself.

Princesa is a beautiful song and so is song #3. However, let's face it Vine a decirte adi?s, D?jame entrar and Cuando se quiere se puede are platinum albums. This latest one in my opinion does not match up.

BTW Raulin R will be releasing a new album very soon.

Alex Bueno - A Buscar Que
Aventura - Ciego De Amor
Daniel Moncion - Quien Entiende

La Makina-

In brief they were an interesting PR merengue band and unfortunately they broke up three years ago. They managed to capture the hearts of many merengue followers and their music still does. They have a few songs that I do like and their album Pa'l bailador is among one of my favorites by La Makina.

As well, they were wonderful live performers.

Edited: I just went on Amazon.com and La Makina has a September 2005 release which means although the original band members parted ways one of the originals formed a new group. Anyway I will have to sample their sound after all they did call themselves 'Los Reyes del ritmo'.... pa'l bailador.... La Makina.

Marcosdemoca-

Dame coraz?n is a beautiful bachata from Raulin's fourth album El amor da vida. I don't think you will find those lyrics anywhere since most sites have recent albums only. Therefore, I just listened to the song and wrote out the lyrics for you. I sent you a PM. Enjoy it. It brings back great memories for me.

Dame lo que nunca esa mujer a m? me dio
Dame lo que siempre yo esperaba de ella
Dame las caricias, la ternura que me neg?
Dame lo que siempre yo esperaba de ella....

Mas Canciones De Bachata

Raulin Rodriguez - Soledad
Zacarias Ferreira - Estoy Enamorado
Teodoro Reyes - El Matatan
Christian Christian - La Cama
Yoskar Sarante - La Noche
Davicito Paredes - No Speaki Spanish
Monchy & Alexandra - Hasta El Fin
Luis Segura - Que Sera (very nice crossover appeal)
Luis Segura - No Te Atreves
Luis Segura - Amame
Luis Segura - Celos
Luis Segura - Desde Que Te Fuiste
Luis Segura - Hasta Cuando
Antony Santos - Te Amo
Antony Santos - Matame
Luis Vargas - Veneno
Luis Vargas - Yo Mismo La Vi
Joe Veras - Antidoto
Joe Veras - Tirando Piedras
Henry Castro - Me Voy A Quitar De En Medio

I should have included more Luis Segura in the list but it is only fair that I do some bit of rotation amongst the other bachateros. I think he is one of the best bachateros around particularly because of his crossover appeal. I simply love him [ I am male so of course, it is in a non-romantic way].

I love this song. I don't recognize the word caricias - what would be the English equivalent? The other part of the phrase would translate to "the tenderness she denied me", verdad?

Sholly, I am with you on Segura! I remember a romantic evening in Coco's once long ago, when, a bit addled, I got up and sang to my wife (and the diners, who formed a captive audience) Segura's beautiful "Encontr? lo que buscaba" accompanied by two street musicians. What a song.

Segura's style of bachata is not quite what the other bachateros produce nowadays, but they owe him a huge debt. I never tire of listening to him.

Trina/ Macocael-

Trina- Mirador helped you out and your interpretation of the rest of the phrase is correct.

Macocael- Luis Segura is a gem of a bachatero and what I like most is that no one can emulate his style, his rhythm and his voice. In my opinion he is what the critics call 'fiel exponente del g?nero bolero antillano'. An English version of that phrase would do him no justice. The guy has a flawless repertoire of beautiful bolero antillano which sets him apart from the regular 'bachatero'. Some of my favorite albums by Luis Segura include:

Hasta cuando
Como yo
Cosas de la vida
Te perdono- "porque me da verg?enza con mis amigos".

Also the female vocalist who sings with him "La Vickiana" is great too and as you know there are very few female bachateras that are successful. Three that I like are: Valeria (who was promoted by Luis Vargas), Vanessa Gil - excellent, and La Vickiana (con Luis Segura).

Anything Antony Santos and Hector Acosta is good for me.

Well have you heard Frank Reyes, he's supposed to be the #1 bachatero right now, he sings with passion and class. If you like tipico, Yovanny Polanco will be there, not your typical tipico band, his lead singers have sort of a modern sound to them and there is heavy base sound in the band, very very nice.

Antony Santos is great, he can play that guitar, gotta give it to him. Hector Acosta another great, great voice.

I am not surprised that Frank Reyes is supposed to be the #1 bachatero. He is tirelessly promoting his songs in all of the small pueblos and internationally. I love his music.
For me, it is a tossup between Frank Reyes and Antony Santos. I recently bought all of Antony Santos' earlier CDs and I just love the older songs. I just wish he would have more concerts! Raulin Rodriguez is next on my list and then Zacarias Fereirra and Joe Veras.
My favourite all time bachatas?
Consejo de Padre - Antony Santos
Se fue mi amor bonito - Frank Reyes
Tu seras mi vida - Zacarias
and lots of others by these artists.
You just gotta love Bachata!:bunny:

Interesting-

Snowbird44-

It does not take much to inspire me to discuss music and your post did just that.

I agree with your artist selection however, in my opinion Zach F really has not proven himself to be in the ranks of Antony S, Frank R, Raulin R and Joe V. If you recall ZF had a great debut and second album and then a few mediocre ones in between. However, his last two I must say are strong come backs especially with his new rhythmic nuances that he has incorporated into his bachatas. Songs like La chica del barrio and Te amo exemplify this.

Frank Reyes' bachata is unique rhythmically however, he enhances his own music with his voice and charisma. I believe he's classified as the number #1 bachatero in the DR and it's also with reference to his stage presence in concert and not just his exceptional musical talent.

Joe Veras is a good too but in my opinion he does not have the popularity that Antony S and Frank R do. After his platinum album Carta de verano he has not been in the spotlight since although his follow up album Tonto corazón is a gem too.

The older albums of Antony Santos are classics. As I always say he's a pillar bachatero.
