I'm wondering if they are still working on the reconstruction of the Fisherman's Village in LT? Or are the restaurants in full swing?

What - if any - things were done to prevent another disastrous fire event? (Knowing the DR, probably nothing, but I'd thought I'd ask)

Crickets - no answer to the the above ?

I've stayed down the road & across the street from the FV - pre-Covid.

Looking to return to LT in March - but whats it been like the last 4 yrs? Are tourist still coming?

I can get a directed flight on American from MIA to AZS.

I love DR - plan to spend some Winter months in Retirement in a few yrs.

Whats the latest there?

Cabarete, DR
I have not been there to know a baseline. I was there a few weeks ago. There are some unfinished structures, there is a temporary wall from opposite the Puerto Plaza complex. There were construction materials dumped on the road opposite Don Cesar Residencial causing a bit of bottleneck but I did not see construction proceeding at pace (TBH, I was either driving off or staying at home due to the heat)

As far tourists, it looked ok for summer with good restaurants mostly fill, lot of traffic etc. I left mid-week and it was more quieter compared to the weekend

we're heading back for 4/5 months, can't wait!

Recently, our Frenchy friends in LT are saying construction has not been completed at the Fisherman's Village. Is anyone surprised?

But MIA to AZS with Amerian Airlines has been inactive for a while, my friend. If I'm wrong, please post the link. This flight would be a time saver, for sure

I have seen recent reports of infrastructure overload in LT. Power delivery problems and water issues.
And, as usual, it wasn't anyone's fault. Anyone there who knows how bad it is now?

You have to admit, that looks way better than the concrete structures being built behind Sosua Beach!
It seems with these projects both in Las Terrenas and Sosua that it's people in the capital making the decisions. They just know these places from going there on weekend trips. I don't know exactly how it works though. The political decision process.

It looks a lot bigger than the old place, but I think that's what Las Terrenas needs. My complaint before was that there weren't many places just to sit and have a drink with friends, as in Cabarete for example.

I have to side with Luz y Fuerza on this one, when Orssini used to produce and distribute there was power 90 percent of the time in LT, when the Gov. forced him into a distribute only situation is when the outages started and LT fell in line with the rest of the country in outages, it is extremely difficult to distribute power when there isn't any. It was very expensive back in the day and everybody used to bitch about it but the outages were much less apparent than as today with the Government supplying the power, the Gov doesn't care, Orssini did.

Interesting. Could you elaborate more on how this works please?

They didn't just come in and make decisions. David Collado has always worked with locals to come up with plans that are accepted and implemented.

There was a period when Luz y Fuerza LT produced ALL the power for Las Terrenas, parts of El Limon and I believe Las Galeras, Sr. Orssini had two large generators producing the power, he had a goldmine and was the sole proprietor, the Government wanted a piece of that pie. He fought them off for quite a few years but eventually lost out and now just distributes the power in Las Terrenas. The power source today is somewhere west of the Samana peninsula towards POP and is the same as Nagua and large swaths of the North Coast. There is a substation (?) in Sanchez that now sends power over the lomas to LT. There were plenty of times in the past that Sanchez and Santa Barbara de Samana would be in the dark but LT had luz thanks to Orssini & Luz y Fuerza Las Terrenas. With the large scale, rabid out of control growth in the past 5 years would he (Orssini) have been able to keep up with the demand?, I believe so, knowing him personally I believe he would have invested heavily to keep the lights on. Meanwhile, today, the residents and visitors of LT must rely on Government supplied power and we all know what that's like, sporadic and unreliable, especially in touristic hotspots in high season and during long ferria weekends. Returning to the OP, it will certainly be nice for Las Terrenas to finally have their Pueblo de Pecadores back up and running, it was/is a big part of the village.
