You say the eviction was illegal, but the family legally living there?
As with most legal issues in the DR , this is not black and white.
The only fact I know is that the family has occupied that property for over 50 years. In that period of time the family remained a poor family of fisherman. However , over that 50 years the area has started seeing much prosperity . The immediate surroundings on Playa Las Ballenas are going through extreme gentrification making the land these poor folks have very desirable.
Money has met poverty and money won. The family is evicted from the property. Their structures leveled and burned .
I doubt anyone really knows who holds true title to this property that is the source of the civil unrest in LT currently.

maybe that's why they are all still empty, amigo
I am expecting to see the exact same outcome in another well-known beach town on the north coast currently under construction along the beach top hills once the project is complete. Rents will price the locals out of the market.

Cabarete, DR
Was there a couple of weeks ago. None of the reconstructed shacks are operational. They have guards posted (at least during day time), I think from Ministry of Tourism. The road once past Puerto Plaza is ok but the beach side opposite to Puerto Plaza still is blocked off as if under construction. People still park inconsiderately in Liberty Street. The beach side casitas there didnt have many customers during the week, I cannot see them moving to the new shacks unless someone in the government is very kind.

From what my source is telling me in town, the reason the restaurants have not returned in the newly constructed Fisherman's Village....the previous rental agreements have to expire before new lease agreements are written on the properties. He thinks by Christmas.
