Former Resort?
Some members here who seem to know about Construction and Concrete , have explained that once the Concrete deteriorates, and crumbles , there is way too much effort and $$ Money involved in repairing it.
The Best Illustration is that Building in Florida which had Saltwater moisture Exposure and literally collapsed ..Concrete crumbled .
I guess they did not want to repair it and just took their chances, and lost .
Be honest, I think the Macao resort one would be the most expensive to demolish and rebuilt, why? it's big and right by the water. Salt that damages the concrete there. Also, don 't forget there's swamp in the area, it makes its harder to build a complete resort.
I always think its better to demolish then rebuilt if it's abandoned for 10+ years. If like 2-3 years, maybe can fix it up and reopen but at lower rates first then when it grows, they can always do phase 2 next door with brand new facility then that is where you can jack up rates and make a good killing profits, then go to phase 3 as well.
Just sayin' ......
Most all resorts have low pricing when they open. Then once they get going/drawing interest from people, the rates go up, and many times by a lot. Hyatt Ziva/Zilara Cap Cana is an example of this.

That's next to Playa Caribe. Riu Naiboa resort.
Carribean Sun resort and Rimini used to be on the other side of the beach but were torn down.
IIRC, they were built illegally.
Barcelo hotels really took a hit back then.

These are, in addition to the Barceló Capella Beach Resort , the Barceló Decameron Beach Resort, Barceló Embassy Beach Resort, Barceló Naiboa , Barceló Colonial Tropical hotel , Grand Caribe ( Meliá Juan Dolio hotel ), Playacanes hotel, Howart Johnson-Hotel Macorix, Best Western Metro Hotel Golf & Marina and Occidental Playa Real .
The 10 facilities represented more than 2,000 hotel rooms and the same average number of jobs, according to a report published by the newspaper Diario Libre.

I remember that hotel from years ago. Juan Dolio used to be the beach our flight crew would go to on downtime in Santo Domingo.
OmG, how many Memorys coming up now. I worked there in 1996 when I was 27. Time flys away, never will forget those times.

But how the Bleep do you build a RESORT on top of Cliffs , with No Beach Access ? and think this is going to a Place people will want to Flock to , and look forward to visiting again in the future..
For what possible purpose , to b teased by the beauty of the Water, which you have no immediate Access to ?
I just dont get it .
This looks more like a good Location for a PRISON.

maybd they have a shuttle to the beach you see in the background. I do agree with your comments and I thought the same about the location with no beach. maybe nice view
