It's not just here. Austrailias Wonderland:

Sometimes culture is an issue, not economics, poor planning, or poor construction. It took years for the French to accept the presence of a Disney Resort near their famous city of Paris. It’s now generating profits, employing approximately 17,000 people, and becoming more environmentally sustainable.

I always spent time at the former Luperon resort beach anytime I visited Luperon. I like it there because it has a small beach bar and the beach is not crowded and frequented mostly by locals. It was, in its day, a resort with a large clientele and a good reputation. The long drive on a winding campo road in rough shape from Gregorio Luperon airport to Luperon was always an issue. The last owners also drove it into the ground and left many employees unpaid.

It was an economic boon for Luperon and the town hasn’t recovered from the loss. The resort is salvageable and there were rumours Lifestyles was interested in it but nothing happened. Someone opened up the resort restaurant area adjacent to the beach and was doing a good business on weekends. I think that‘s closed now. The road from Imbert to Luperon has had significant improvements and a new power line was built to bring dependable power to the area but it was too little, too late. Poor planning and poor management resulted in the eventual closure of the resort. The explosion of resorts in Punta Cana probably would have closed it anyway.

Reina Cumayasa.

I stayed there a few times with my partner back when it was new.
Nice with huge marble bathrooms and expansive rooms.
The swimming pool had salt water.

So sad to see all of these luxury hotels abandoned.
