so why not move permanently to US ,Panama or Colombia....why stay in this Hell Hole ?
Did I say Hell Hole? I said there's no normal nightlife. Yes, exactly. Go to Miami or LA or Amsterdam to see normal nightclubs. Go to Las Vegas to see normal casinos. And for some kind of fun that is not to describe on this board I believe, it's better to travel to Panama, because before Covid it's where you could find the best Colombian girls, and you can drive all night around the city in Panama and there are no idiots blinding you with high beams, police don't stop you to extort money, and there's very low risk to get in other kinds of trouble.

But all of that doesn't mean that I have to move to any of those places permanently. I can afford traveling to them as often as I want, I used to travel every month before Covid. And while I'm in DR, I could drive to Punta Cana to enjoy some all inclusive resort one week, then drive to Las Terrenas to enjoy another one next week, then spend some time in Santo Domingo, then travel abroad again. And I will do it all again after this 'wear mask, present PCR tests, etc' virus crap is over. But right now, when I stay in Santo Domingo, I like the curfew because the city is quite and calm at night. And I don't care if bar or restaurant or nightclub owners go out of business, it's not my problem. I don't care about anything that doesn't affect me directly, why should I?

I think the word you're looking for is selfish.

When people are vaccinated, they get a vaccination card. Are those cards entered into a computer data base?
I ask the question because I expect that data base will be one factor in when the curfews end.
Not to be rude but I've have a lot of experience working with Dominicans wiho have decent educations and their data entry skills, like soooo many other areas of this wonderful country, are far from perfect.

Loud music and reckless behaviour are very much a part of Dominican culture.
Don't believe me?
Just ask the average Dominican in the street.
Unfortunately it's part of their culture many people do not accept and therefor want to change.

I am certainly well aware of their lack in the ability to maintain a proper data base. I was a victim of that during a residency renewal and it finally made my decision to become a citizen an easy one to not have to deal with them ever again for residency.

I do expect that the "vaccine passport" situation will force the hand of governments with regard to CV19 and travel by air and cruise ship and the number eventually vaccinated will play a part in the relaxation of curfews toward the end of this year.

You can blame Chinese for the virus, you can blame Government for curfew and shutdowns. I just live my life and enjoy what I like. If I like quiet streets at night, that doesn't make me selfish. I am not Mother Teresa. I am not paid to worry about anybody, it's the Goverment's job, not mine. The same way I can say how can you eat your meal at the restaurant when so many children die from hunger-related causes in Africa? You have to stop eating in restaurants immediately and donate all money you spend for restaurants to African children. Don't be that selfish. LOL.

And actually, if all population is suffering that much as you said, why the hell they still want to eat in restaurants and go to clubs at night? They should save money if everybody is suffering. And, maybe, instead of pay for meals, just donate money to suffering restaurant owners and go home without a meal?

I wonder the same thing..... it should be entered.... under your cedula
There were people with no cedulas, as in foreigners with just passports from their home countries.
But I have no idea what information they are keeping. I will attempt to find out in a couple of weeks.

Loud music (if that noise can be called music at all) and reckless behavior is not a part of the culture, it's the lack of culture. And not only in DR. It's just that in DR the percentage of people with the lack of culture is bigger than in other countries.

Be it a more recent part of their culture it is very much a part of the Dominican culture today.
Remove it and this country would be a completely different place.

Curfew helps a lot to educate them that they can live without that night time noise. Social distancing is good too, nobody comes too close in a supermarket. And the best part here is masks, because with masks they talk less and not that loud. Oh, I forgot that noisy children are not crawling on the floor everywhere in shopping malls now. So this Covid thing actually has a very positive impact on the society here, because those people with the lack of culture now learn how to act like normal. I really love seeing it.

Winde I can answer that question with an absolute on THE US SIDE: When I got my second shot in the states I sat right in from of the tech and asked "Is this little card here the only thing that happens for this event" His answer: That's an appointment card. He then turned computer for me to see. Your name is entered into the CDC site along with dates, which vaccine, serial number (batch #?) and where performed. I was comforted knowing that some day I will need that info and I know where it is stored.

As far as the DR, I have no idea.

Man, try to tell members of Orquesta Sinfonica Nacional that loud ghetto reggaeton, being illiterate, and behavior like throwing trash around you everywhere is the part of their culture. Maybe they will explain you what culture is. If there are so many idiots with the lack of culture, lack of education, etc, that doesn't mean that their behavior is a part of the culture.

I liked Eugene's postings until the very last with the last paragraph. :(
I am not Mother Teresa and I don't want to play one. I don't want to express fake sadness when I don't have the real one. Life is changing, nothing is permanent. If some people think that the flow of tourists, customers, passengers, etc is something granted and guaranteed and when it's over they demand Government to pay compensations, that's just a stupidity and nothing else. It may be a tourist paradise now, but who knows, maybe in two years from now seaweeds will grow up 10 times more and ruin all beaches, and tourists will stop coming here at all and there will be no solution. Or there will be some Covid-23 or Covid-24 with severe diarrhea and wearing a diaper on a plane or in all public places will be mandatory because all bathrooms will be closed. Who knows? If some people live without thinking about Plan B for such situations, it's their problem, not mine... maybe now they start to think about it. Maybe it's time for bar owners to think about another type of business. Maybe it's time for tourist taxi drivers to find another job.

Another point is that this 'curfew, masks and social distancing' thing is the first time in DR history when some rules are actually enforced. And as I said before, it's very good because the enforcement of the rules educates them how to act like normal. You can't deny obvious things, no matter if you like them or not. I just say it directly.
