I got a email from a friend in Punta Cana that said the streams on that side of the Island have Gold. Also a story about a man named "Doroteo" from Miches who found a 16 pound nugget. It was written in a book called "Although You Might Not Believe" by Robert Ripley.? Believe It or Not.

Check with famed treasure hunter Burt Webber in SD. His kid is from Nevada and claims he pans for gold out there and is an expert with a "sluice box". I bet he'd could help you.

The Webber's shouldn't be too hard to find...their treasure hunting ship (R/V Hispaniola) is always tied to dock instead of out hunting treasure...if the crew is not on the boat, they're at Cafeteria de Penalba holding "court" over a few Brahmas.

I got an email yesterday from a friend who went panning near Miches and sent me these pics. He said the locals pan down there everyday and seem to have decent luck.

Suarezn - Uh I got one...Not long ago a company called Barrick (from Canada) came to The DR and found tons of gold (one of the largest gold mines in the world as a matter of fact)...then they paid off the government and they were given all the gold without having to give anything back in return...How's that for a good gold finding story?...Yeah I know I'm bitter about the whole Barrick situation...:tired:

So according to your version of events, Barrick have no obligations what so ever in this deal.

I am sure that Barrick must pay royalties once they start producing and being a registered company in the DR they will have to pay taxes on their profits. I also read that they are cleaning up the massive environmental mess left by the previous operators and have even lent the DR people/Govt funds to cover the Govt's percentage of the clean up.

I see that you are bitter and tired... however can you find some energy to clarify what you mean by "without having to give anything back" ?

I have been sampling around DR for some gold. Finally came up with some very little but didn't run too much material. Currently I have gold pans, a prospector bazooka, a yellow jacket, and a blue bowl system for the flour gold out there. If anyone would like to team up let me know. I plan on sending out a dredge/Highbanker if I ever fing a productive location with access.

By the time gold reaches a coast via a stream, it's fine powder. You'll have a better chance of finding something in the hills/mountains.

Barrick paga $US400 millones al Estado -
The Danilo administration forced Barrick to renegotiate and now a huge percentage of what they export has to be paid to the government in cash. The reason for the renegotiation was that the congressmen and senators originally approved Barrick's proposition without reading the bill. Then investigative journalist began to peruse the bill and they discovered that the politicians had approved that Barrick can keep practically everything they could mined. Then it was discovered that a study of the gold mine in Pueblo Viejo (near Cotui) is estimated to have more than US$60 billion worth in gold.

Also relatively recently a new massive deposit of gold was found in the Cordillera Central near San Juan de la Maguana. Some other company, I think its Canadian too, will begin the mine to exploit those deposits too.

The rumor mill has been spreading that the DR mow has the 2nd largest proven gold deposits in America. Its kind of ironic that 400 years after the Spanish decided all the (easy) gold had been mined, that Columbus' assertion that the island was full of gold (he based his comment on what the Indians told him of the Cibao gold region), that now Columbus is proven right. Its mostly the Cordillera Central that has much of the gold, and guess what? What the Taino's called the Cibao was not the valley that today has its name, but rather the mountains of the Cordillera Central.

As it is right now, gold exports make up a quarter of all of DR's exports and it has been only like one or two years since they truly started to export the stuff.

There is a very nice jewerly store in Paseo Plaza in LT. Mucho auro aqui. Sadly, they don't allow pans in the store. Just cash.

That's a perfect example of how the capitalista running dogs keep the working man down.

Yes, there are many people that witnessed the previous damage. It was well known and recorded.
