The 9th edition of BHD’s Great Women That Change The World Awards is currently accepting postulations in the web address shown.

There are 8 areas:

- Social Accion​
- Culture​
- Education​
- Entrepreneurship​
- Scientific Research​
- Environment​
- Health​
- Others​

Participants must be:

Dominican Women*​
- Over 25 years old.​
- Living in the DR or abroad.​
- From any sector or social ambiance.​
- Actions must have a positive repercussion in the DR and/or took place in the DR.​
Foreign Women
- Over 25 years old.​
- Must be legal residents of the DR for 10 years or more.​
- Any sector or social ambiance.​
- Actions must have a positive repercussion in the DR and or took place in the DR.​

Participants can postulate themselves or by a third person, companies, organizations or institutions.


Awards

- First Place (1 winner): RD$1 million​
- Second Place (2 winners): RD$500K​
- Remaining Finalists: RD$100K each​
- A public homage via a photographic exposition of all the finalists and winners.​
- Participation in “Accompaniment, Consulting, and Formation” in which they and social groups they are related to will receive lessons on entrepreneurship, finance and values, company administration, and institutional formation.​

** Since this award is a Dominican creation and will take place in the DR, I think “trans women” are not going to be accepted as “women, women.” Just a hunch…

In this interview on May 16, 2024 of Luis Abinader, in the beginning he speaks of how his administration has increased the participation of women in the various government ministries (in positions of power) and of the various policies his government has put in place that benefit women and offer more protection to women in situation on violence/abuse.

This recent interview done to Captain Francisco Díaz is about various things regarding Dominican aviation. At 3:54 he is asked what is the role of women in aviation (traditionally a sector dominated by men except the flight attendant part). He says right now there are many women in aviation and specifically points out the DR. Among the many roles women are found in Dominican aviation includes that the person in charge of the entire air control in the DR (contacts all the traffic control towers in all Dominican airports) is a woman: Claudia Rojas.
