Right Chico
I think Evelyn is looking for ideas to better the airport experience rather give flight information

Riva is the best at the info

The porters would improve their service (and tips) if they did the 'heavy lifting'

The new President has appointed me as the new manager of the airport customs area (DGA) here in Puerto Plata (POP). Our new goal is to make the airport more user friendly, tourists orientated and a pleasure to use.

My background is college in the USA and for the last 22 years administration villa management of SeaHorse Ranch here the the Sosua-Cabarete area. Many of you already know me.

Hopefully we can all work together to accomplish these goals at the airport.

First, I welcome all arriving passengers to ask for me personally (to know me or help with problems), second if anyone has ….

1.) ideas to improve the airport customs
2.) report here any problems (be it operational, rudeness, or improper behavior)
3.) general comments to help me (us) and improve tourism to the North Coast.

You can write here. I’m aware of the past problems and the biggest complaint (expensive airport fares) and although above my pay grade, I have the ear of the new president. Let’s see.

Thank you for your time and looking forward to hearing (meeting) you. You now have a friend at the airport customs.

Evelyn Barrientos

Maybe the porters with luggage carts could stage closer to the baggage drop so you can ask one for help removing large bags from the conveyor without having to shout across the terminal 75' away
Not too close. I seem to remember they were staged a certain distance from the conveyors to prevent them from grabbing baggage without the consent of the owner.

Evelyn, try to ignore the negative comments; they are just that ''negative''.
Your appointment is a step in the right direction and seriously needed.
The training of Agents in English is truly an improvement and makes for an easier transition through the Airport.
I have never had any problems with Customs nor Immigration at POP over the past 10 years...... about 16 times per year including return trips.
Always a pleasant transition.
Congrats on your appointment and I am sure you will do well ....one step at a time.

Been coming here starting over 25 years ago. We know how it works, who to see and get out the door. Don't need nor want another to screw things up.... and try for an extra propena. Simple as that.
And now you're insinuating she's just another person with her hand out. And 25 years coming here? Wow, that's a lot!!! Your 25 year pin is in the mail.
Why, that's almost as much as my 50 years here.
Evelyn, I apologize to you for these types of comments. You'll never hear anything like that from me. I appreciate what you're trying to do.

You don't keep up with the news? THE D.R. WANTS TOURISTS.
That's all this is about.

I wonder... why are you apologizing for me? Not your place at all and I resent you doing so.

What a great approach to your new position, a breath of fresh air. I wish you the best of success and hope you can work your way through the bureaucracy that exists in all Governments!

Dear Sra Evelyn Barrientos,

Congratulations on your new post at POP, it’s a great step forward for tourism & am excited to see the steps the new admin is doing to help the North coast.... Allow me to ask a favor, can you please help influence the new administration to look closer to the advantages that AZS (Samana) could help boost room nights to the Samana peninsula ?..

Thank you

Will you have colleagues at other airports as well? I could write a book on how to improve flow at PUJ . It would start with Mr. Rameri should check his greed at the door. Ever since he started charging to drive in and pick up passengers that place is chaotic.

POP has parking fees - actually 'entry fees'.... 35 pesos = 1st hour

Evelyn is at POP..... we'll see if she can answer the PUJ questions

The question was regarding PUJ.... not POP

Hence my comment.... I know the 35 peso charge
PUJ appears to be different..... but we pay for pick-up entry at POP

So the PUJ problem exists today at POP....same game

At PUJ it's 50 pesos per hour. Unless you have prearranged a pick up spot you pretty much have to pay it. As of my last trip they have not started charging for drop offs.
As I said earlier the system worked great until Rameri got greedy.
